Yes - I have bought from SpinkSmythe on multiple occasions over the years, both under their current and previous ownership. I have placed advance bids via fax and through their website as well. I have sometimes won items at less than my maximum, and other times at my max.

Although S/S's online bidding application has improved tremendously in recent years, it still leaves much to be desired, IMHO. When I faxed in my bids, it was because I felt more comfortable bidding that way than trusting their online system to record my bids accurately during the sale.
