Jim Thome is back in Cleveland

According to the Indians beat writer Jordan Bastian: "Done deal: Thome to Cleveland for a player to be named later. Sides have until Oct. 15 to agree on who is headed to Minnesota."

THIS IS THE GREATEST NEWS EVER.

That is all. image

  • Looks like Thome wanted to retire an Indian.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

I thought it was Kansas City's turn.

Glad to see it's a team where he can hit another 20 dingers against the Tigers before he retires.

As it should be and should have always been! Welcome home Jimmy!
  • Can we please get this guy OUT of the Central? Total Tiger-killer.

BTW, Thome is COOL! Love that guy - don't like Cleveland. image

I'm very happy about Thome's return! I wish I could go to his first game back, it will certainly be a warm welcome! image

Still not enough though to catch the Tigers!! image
  • Yeah I wish I could head up there this weekend too. I wonder what this means for next year... if Hafner is healthy there's no place for Thome. Although Hafner hasn't been completely healthy for years. I suppose if Thome wanted to retire after this season this would be a perfect bookend.

Is he for sure retiring? Like someone said...Where is he playing with Haffner as the left handed DH. I was hoping he would play another year or so...I guess not. It looks like the move is just to have him retire as an Indian. I actually don't like it and wish he would continue to play.

I heard the Thome wanted to go to a team with a chance to win a championship, but I am sorry to see him leave the Twins.

Good luck Jim! Thanks for some great memories.

Kinda wish we would have grabbed him up a couple years ago and just locked him in a cage. Not a bad $1.5mil investment, being that we threw away $40+mil/yr for Nate Robertson, Bonderman, Guillen and Willis... Well, at least the Tigers don't have to face him this weekend!!

My White Sox should have kept him until he retired. They make so many mistakes its not even funny! image

    Paul.

    Later, Paul.
  • I'm a TWIN'S fan and I hate to see him go..he is a classy player and every time he steps to the plate he generates EXCITEMENT!
