I have these two coins, which is better for my set?

Because I am totally confused by the weighting system on the Modern Type Proof set 1950-pres..

I have a 1964 pr69cam Kennedy, and a 1993 s pr70dcam Kennedy. Even though I keep both in the same folder for my own personal modern proof set, I would like to know which coin would give me the better "points" for my reg set.

any suggestions are appreciated.

  • How about both of them!! They fill two separate positions in the type set: one is the Silver proof 1964, 1992-current. And the other fills the clad slot.

Just out of curiosity, what do others think of lumping the 1964 in with the 1992-present silvers? It certainly makes my 64 PR69DCAM a lot less useful (at least for the type set)---that is, there are a lot of less expensive silver PR69 DCAMS or even PR70DCAMS to fill that slot. Seems to me that lumping the 1964 in with the recent silvers isn't right. (but my beautiful 1964 probably makes me biased).

  • Hi Pete,

I noticed that too and I agree with you. The 1964 shouldn't be lumped together with the others.

I just noticed that today as well. I have a 68CAM in the slot now. I went and checked the safe... I can plug a 2000 or 2001 in for a 2 point upgrade (x weight). I kinda like my 68CAM though. I plucked it from a proof set I bought off a dealer for $8.
