Another CW article on Chinese Counterfeits

Yet another CW article about apprehending someone for selling or attempting to sell Counterfeit silver dollars in various states.

I hate these counterfeits as much as anyone - and even though many knowledgable collectors can pick them out - they hurt sales of genuine silver dollars (circ's) to real buyers due to the possibility of getting these fakes.

But I want some comments from the forum on this question (playing Devil's advocate):

Dont you feel that the dealer (buyer) that informed police of the counterfeits should have known what they were buying...... and......

The seller, even though they probably knew that what they sold was fake, were not attempting to purchase any goods by passing them as legal tender, and were only asking for a price on them to sell them.......

What law was broken? My opinion is it is a case of "hard luck" for the buyer (remember, some of these buyers are the same people who low-ball little old ladies)

Would the buyer be held accountable for "theft" if they offered a waaay below market rate for the coins (like $3 each)?
