Today, I traveled to Dalton, Georgia to go to the 52nd Annual Blue Ridge Numismatic Association coin show. Today was the 1st day of the coin show and it continues tomorrow and the last day is on Sunday. I got to the coin show about 8 minutes before the show started (started at 10:00 AM). I waited in my vehicle until 10 AM. As I was waiting in my vehicle for the show to start, I noticed that there was a steady stream of cars coming in to the venue and the parking lot was starting to fill up with cars and this was before the show started. When I arrived at the venue (about 9:52 AM), spot gold was at $1855.10/oz and spot silver was at $42.08/oz.
It seemed to me that there were more people that attended this first day of the show than this time last year. There appeared to be more people buying gold and especially silver. There were also some people selling gold and silver but I was not paying too much attention to the people who were selling. Overall IMO, there was plenty of silver bullion to be had and they had all different types of silver from 100-oz Engelhard bars to the 1-oz .999 generic silver rounds.
Of couse my first goal was to find some silver art bars to add to my collection. I found some silver art bars that I liked very much but I had to look closely because some of them were easy to miss. As I was looking for silver art bars, I came across some prices on various other types of gold and silver bullion. Here are some prices that I have observed:
SAE's = $46 to $50
2011 SAE = $48
1/10 GAE's $200 to $205
1-oz .999 generic silver = $43
Silver art bars = $44 was the lowest price that I saw but certain rare and semi-rare ones started at $50 and went up from there.
10-oz silver bars = $430 to $440
Of course, they had 1-oz gold eagles, 1-oz gold Kruggerands, etc but I did not pay attention to the prices on those. They also had 90% silver, 100-oz silver bars as well as some numismatic coins (slabbed and raw). It felt more crowded this time than last year and I saw some other silver art bar collectors at this show and we got together and talked. I had a very good day today at the show and I picked up a few silver art bars that I liked and I am happy with my purchases.
I plan to go back to the coin show tommorrow to see if I can find any more silver art bars.

Thanks for the report. See what the buy/sell spread on 90% is if you don't mind.
My local B&M dealer buddy from Statesboro is up there buying away. He had a roll set of SAE's waiting on him to pick up. He usually buys a ton at this show to sell on the 'bay.
Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.

The spread at my lOcala b&m is 21x buyvs 31x sell. Yikes!
@ Guitarwes.............I totally forgot to check on the 90% silver pricing. I got so caught up in looking for silver art bars that I forgot to look at the pricing for 90% silver. Sorry about that.
I plan to go back to this show next year.
No problem Mr.Art, glad you found something else for the collection. Thanks P4YT, 28X seems like you could make a point or point and a half when selling.
"I plan to go back to this show next year."
I bet silver won't be @ 28x next year!

I think I couldn't have done better on the silver sales, I got 28.5x on the well circulated quarters and dimes. I got spot on the 10 oz ampex bars and spot + $0.50 on the JM bars.
I had virtually no luck trying to sell some old Whitman Folders with cents, jeff's and buff's minus the keys. I have to admit they were only good to fine, and missing all the keys and semi keys. Almost every table I shopped them to, looked and said "not for me ... thanks." Most of the dealers said that they had shops full of this common stuff and wouldn't make an offer. I figured I would donate them to the MCCA or BRNA YN programs but one last table offered me $35 for them. I took it even though I think it was way low, because they no longer fit my collecting goals.
I found just one MS 63 1908 Barber Half in NGC plastic but the dealer wouldn't budge off the $900 price. I guess I made the mistake of telling him it was the nicest 63 I had ever seen. I offered him the full price guide of $880. Even though bid was $775 and ask was $850, he said he would rather keep it because he couldn't replace it at that price. That logic left me scratching my head.
I know I'm going to have a sleepless night tonight as regret sinks in.
Oh well, there's always tomorrow...
<< <i>Yes, I guess I lost a deal over $20. Or you could look at it like he lost a deal over $20. Either way, the price was fair for the coin, but more than I felt comfortable paying. Like I said, tomorrow's another day and its likely the Barber will still be there. I may get another chance at it. >>
Did you wind up going back and getting the Barber?
