Opinions on grade?

Hello all,

I was looking into selling this coin at some point soon and wanted to some ideas about grade - due to the rather simple design I am finding it a bit hard to determine!

I am totally ignorant of these coins but I would hazard a guess of somewhere between VF and EF.

Not my area but the fields look promising and original- I think 40 is reasonable

I agree. Looks XF-ish to me. An AU would have trace luster and/or more defined dentilation.

I would think that the wear on the rims would hold it to very fine. Doesn't look like poor strikes. IMHO

I am thinking EF and beg to differ in that the rims IMO do not appear well or regularly struck. I think I may even see some very small areas of luster...Interesting and not my area.

Thanks for the opinions guys - I was thinking VF/EF myself, as the rims look weak but there appear to be some glimmers of mint lustre under the light surface dirt. In any case, your posts have been very helpful!

Can someone identify it for us?

Sure, its an Egyptian Ottoman silver 5 Qirsh, AH 1277/3, or AD 1862. I don't remember the KM number, but it's a tougher type to get (only the AH 1277/4 is commonly available, and features a slightly different look, with denticled rims and the like). I just have real trouble grading some of these coins with the most simple designs...

I am not an expert on the series, but I suspect the rims are just a product of the striking-
