German Empire question?

I noticed PCGS has Registry set up for the Iron and Zinc 5 and 10 Pfennigs from the teens and early twenties, yet there is however not a single coin listed.

Due to corrosion issues as I'm sure these metals where chosen due to shortages of WWI are such examples even available in UNC image

I have seen uncorroded example with mint lustre - but they are scarce.

I have had one or two pieces I believed to be UNC, and they were pretty much uncorroded, but they lacked anything I would call luster.

Kind of hard to get luster on zinc and iron coins, me thinks.image

  • I've got a decent 1921D Iron 5 pfennig that I'd say has lusture and is 'prägefrisch' (mint fresh) in my German type set. Don't have a good photo and it's in a SA flip but here is one of it from seller (they only show them small in the ma shops archive):

I also have a decent 1920 zinc 10 pfennig in my type set but it definately doesn't have lusture.
Still thinking of what to put in my signature...

I would have agree if it weren't for owning one that does! For the longest time I thought that was the case, until I picked up a iron wwii issue 5 ore from Norway in brilliant UNC. So they do exist.

My bad it's actually an iron Swedish 1 ore of 42

Also - I haven't found a nice one since that one - in a junk box image

PS - ok - brilliant unc in my memory anyway...
