New to Trading Cards. My first 100 submission to PSA

I've been lurking for about a month seeing what everyones talking about on the PSA Set registery. I finially decided to sign up and join in. How I got started....I am an eBay seller (which I don't know after reading this board I want to admit to) and I go to Lein storage auctions to find stuff to sell.

Well I never thought I'd get a collection of Trading Cards. Basketball and Baseball mainly baseball. So as I always do I dig and learn about the stuff I have. But I never expected to get hooked on trading cards. Everytime I go to the store now I have to buy a pack. I have submitted 100 cards to PSA for grading before I totally understood what grading was all about. I know more now but I'm sure I ave lots more to learn. OK my big question here is how about grading the common cards? What do you feel the best bet would be for me to sell just the commons?

I'm still waiting for those cards I'm dieing on the wait.

Depends on what those common cards are...

If you're talking 1989 Topps commons, then yes - grading would be a huge waste of money and effort. But, if you're talking 71 Topps commons in NM/MT or better shape - you can double or triple your money relatively quickly once you get a little experience on your pre-screening process.

It all depends on what comons you've got as to what the market is.

  • I'm still going through a lot of them but the majority I have are from the 89-92 era. I plan on keeping a lot of them for my boys they are now into it. I will have to sell some here and there to help pay for the grading. I was just wondering what most people do with the commons. I have several duplicate commons so I thought I could lot those together or something to sell them. But I was thinking what if there's one person out there that just needs one or two commons and don't want the rest.

Just remember that when you are talking about commons in the 1989 to 1992 Topps/Donruss/Fleer era, commons are worth a penny, maybe. You can purchase unopened wax boxes of nearly all of those years for less than $10. There is just no value there....in lots or as singles.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • That's what I figured with the researched I did but thought I'd ask question. I was thinking about trading here. I'm still working on my list and when I get my cards back I register the ones I can in the set registry. I wish I knew more about grading before i sent off my cards. I'm hoping most my cards grade an 8 or better but I know that would be asking a lot. The one I really am dieing to find out is Cal Ripken's RC card.
