Back in the day you could buy these in packs. Most had a 1 stripe.

If you got a 10, or 100 in the stripe, you could send the card into
Wild Card for 10 or 100 of that player.

Most people just kept the 10 or 100 stripe.

The 1000 stripes are pretty rare, but I don't think anyone cares any
longer unless maybe you are a player collector.

Just dumped a giant box of early 90's basketball in a dumpster and I know there were some of this set in there. I swear there was 1000 on a few but I had not idea about the set. Graded ebay prices for these things seem like there is a demand.

I'm amazed that anybody had a set of these. To say they were tough pulls is an understatement.

Upper Deck just brought this exact concept bak this year in 2011 Upper Deck Football.

Gotta think a bunch of 1000 stripes went out the back door back in the day. Many collectors probably sent there 1000 stripes in so they could have 1000 of the same card (without the stripe).


I remember getting a Robert Horry 1000 stripe (white border?) back in the day and as a kid feeling like I hit the lottery...pretty sure I still have it.

I thought it was the other way around. You could send in 1000 or 100 ect... Of a single card to get the stripe version. Does anyone remember what the prizes were when you sent in the wild card?

you could go either way. send in a 100 and get 10-10's etc. or send in 100 1's and get a 100 back. i remember a dealer at a big show offering $5000 cash for a larry johnson 1000 striper....oh how things have changed.

As one poster said, you could treat them like dollar bills and combine to make a bigger one or break them down. These cards had a unique smell to them. If you ever opened them, you know what I mean. So many of them had Euro jerseys or airbrushed and were not great looking. There were redemption cards in them for 1992 draft picks like Horry or Laettner and if you got a striped redemption, then the one you received was striped as well. They only made the one set in basketball.
