I have had these two small dime-sized silver coins since the 1960's when
I rescued them from California coin dealers' "junk boxes".

Mystery Coin Hamburg (17mm, 0.75gm)
This coin is worn pretty smooth and makes one wonder how long it was in circulation.
The reverse says "Hamburg" and I have a similar coin (below) dated 1763.
I could barely make out the reverse as having a possible date of 1720.

Mystery Coin European (18mm, 2.12gm)
I always thought that this one was French, but could not find a
French portrait to match.
The coin has a date of "18xx".
The second letter of the upper right obverse legend looks like an 'A',
so the name could be Napoleon.
The line on the reverse appears to be post-mint damage.

The best match I could find for the portrait was Hiermonymus Napoleon of
the German state of Westphalia who was Napoleon Bonaparte's younger brother.
That would make the date around 1808.

The more recent Hamburg coin that I have:

  • Hier(M)onymus was also known as Jerome and has an American connection. At the age of 19 on Christmas Eve 1803, he married a wealthy 18 year old girl in Baltimore. His brother was not pleased and had the marriage annulled by the French courts. It was the Pope's turn not to be pleased.

I'm pretty sure youre mystery coin is a silver 900/1000 half Franc of Napoleon Bonaparte - weight 2,5 gramm (when new)
heres a 5 Franc with (about) the same obverse & reverse:

I looked at the coin again and the second letter 'A' might be an 'M'.

Still in doubt, but the French Napoleon coin would be more common than the German one.

the bust on your coin is Napoleon, and not one of his brothers.
he put his brothers and brothers in law on every throne in Europe , Spain, Italy, Germany and Holland
in our country (the Netherlands) it was his brother Lodewijk Napoleon, and he did an excellent job as a King between 1806-1810,
he paved the way for the Netherlands from becoming a Republic of the Netherlands into a Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Here's a 20 Reales coin from Madrid bearing the likeness of José I Bonaparte.
