One confused MLB jersey...

I have come across a 1998 New York Yankees jersey by Mitchell & Ness from Cooperstown Collection. A World Series 1998 patch on the left sleeve, Reggie Jackson's embroidered signature on the front w/ H.O.F 93 embroidered as well... and then on the back it has JETER with a number 2.
I'm confused. It's confused. We're all confused.
This jersey has the original tags on it for $650.00.
Any thoughts or comments? Would you think this would make the jersey less desirable... or no?
Has anyone ever come across this?
(When contacting the company... they were disbelieving.)
I posted pics too (I think), though I'm not sure how they're gonna show up!
Thanks!

I would never buy a Yankee's jersey where they put their names on the back. The Yankees never had their names on the back of their jersey's. I think it makes the jersey look cheap and unauthentic. (I know the one in question is a replica)

  • Thanks for the input. Much appreciated...
  • That's not a 1998 World Series patch. Looks like a 2001 patch with the numbers changed to read 1998. Also the 2 is the wrong 2.

Bottom tag doesn't really look all that much like M&N either. Could be one of those Cooperstown Collection Majestic jerseys that are meant to look kind of vintage but are really anything but. I hate those.

Are the pinstripes straight and smooth like on a replica or do they have the authentic zigzag?

$650 for a jersey with "Jeter" on the back doesn't sound right, since you can get an authentic jersey much cheaper.

The number "2" on the back is very different than on an authentic jersey. See here.

    The jersey is fake.

Take a look at the tags next time you get a chance and I bet you'll see that the bar code on it is not legit.
