What's the chance this seller will deliver?

ManorcourtmanManorcourtman Posts: 8,414 ✭✭✭✭✭
0 feedback. 0 History. Selling probably 100k+ worth of coins. After the thread about Seller limits I have no idea how eBay can let this go on?? Thoughts? eBay Newbie seller

He appears to have the coins, they are all uniform in the way they are photographed. Paypal protection is there. Worth a small gamble maybe.

Looks like a ton of other people are taking the plunge. Also if he started all of these listings at the same time at .99 cent start price I think that would circumvent the Ebay Limit.

I've been notified by a well respected former board member of the following:

    << <i>Hi, Mark Feld here.

No chance, as the images were taken from Park Avenue's site. I have contacted them and also bid on the coins, to try to make sure no one gets stuck. The poster who replied, assuming the seller has possession of the coins, due to the fact their images are uniform, is badly mistaken.

    Sincerely,
    Mark >>

Smells like a scam to me. He claims to know nothing about coins yet appears to have made few, if any, mistakes in the nomenclature of the hobby with respect to the auction titles. That is tough to do especially when he calls a twenty-cent piece and a two-cent piece by their correct names even though they are not stated on the holder as such. He knows the names of series such as Barber and Seated in silver or Liberty in gold. He also hopes to make enough on the sales of these inherited coins to take a weekend vacation and he is a 0 seller. Perhaps he is legitimate, but it would be tough to make his auctions seem more scary unless he listed his location as China and took only Western Union payments.

His feedback number will cause paypal to automatically hold payments until proof of delivery.

I think it might be worth the risk. It makes sense that the coins were inherited. Also, paypal is very reliable! I had an issue with a seller and contacted paypal, and I got my money back which was nice! Personally, I doubt I would bid since there are NO references for this seller from what I can see!

Keep in mind that it's not only feedback number but date joined. I know a few sellers with low feedback numbers and there were never any holds on their withdraw of funds. One has a feedback of 15 and had sold quite a few at $1,500 or more.
