minting in French local market

a friend of mine, saw this minting apparatus on a local market in Langeac, southern France
the minters are waiting for the guy in the background, who handels the melting pot.
probably the way coins were minted during the french revolution , since everybody was dressed up in clothes from that time period.

It appears to be a type of gravity hammer method of striking. This would be a step up from hand hammering method and would leave a sharper impression. The only drawback to this method is sometimes the top die will bounce on impact which can cause a double strike.
would have been nice to compare the quality of an old hand hammered coin and a coin made by this way of minting.
