New 1962 Franklin Half Major Error, mislabeled by ANACS

ctf_error_coinsctf_error_coins Posts: 15,433 ✭✭✭✭✭
Just got this in for the birth year error type set.

A very cool Franklin Error that was struck on a defective planchet.

ANACS calls this a large lamination, which is what happened to this planchet before it was struck, but the lamination didn't happen after the strike which is what a lamination error is (even tho there is a lamination error across Ben's face)

A very cool error that I'll add to my large collection of mislabeled TPG coins image

Maybe it's just me but Benny seems to me smiling a bit more on this obverse then non errors imageimage

I don't recall ever seeing multiple errors mentioned on the chase ANACS slab inserts unless it's a details net graded error.

It looks, just to the left of the 'W', that it's almost like a 'hole' clean through the planchet. It also appears to be a bit of a 'peeling lamination'......don't take this the wrong way, but I hope you are happy with it in the ANACS holder, as our hosts won't holder a peeling lam error (I think it's a VERY cool error, regardless of what holder it's in).

With the errors you show here, EOC, I can only imagine what your private collection looks like...gotta be a killer error set (NOT including that uber-cool Ike error you totally ripped off the 'bay a while back)!!!
    I'll come up with something.

Notsure, I prefer the little white ANACS slabs and would NEVER reholder one.

PCGS would holder this as an error coin, but it will stay where it is, I kinda like mislabled erorr TPG coins as it's kinda another error in itself image

I do have a very nice collection. I have recently decided to sell about half of it as I pulled the coins for my first coin show a few weeks back.

Since I pulled them, (that was the hard part), they are ready to be marketed.

BTW I like you screen name as It came from an extremely funny movie.

    Definitely a defective planchet.

Regardless, "lamination" is the incorrect term for that type of error.
    The correct term is "delamination".

Cool Franklin error! Here are some of mine for this year. The tapered planchet is my favorite.

Franklinlover, your not suppose to collect 1962 error franklins imageimage

I like the double error with the tampered planchet and rim clip, very nice, if you ever want to sell it, let me know.

Here are a few that I do have,

I think this one was mislabeled and believe it was struck on quarter stock punched out half dollar size.

LOL. I'll be sure to let you know if I ever decide to sell that '62.

The '62 w/strike thru was a $20 Ebay purchase. I bought it because it looked FBL and discovered the strike thru after receiving it. The '62-D clip looks unc. to me but I like those white holders and don't wanna spend more money when it probably wouldn't increase the value much at all.

I like this '62 clip! Is that a P or D? I'm working on a complete date/MM set of clips and would like to find a bigger one for '62. The rim clip/tapered planchet is the only clip I have for '62. I'll PM the list of the other dates I need in case you ever run across them.

The Huge clip is a P. I bought it from FW and he said it is one of the bigger clips out there on the series.

    Good luck on your set.
  • This '61-D is the only one I have that's close to your '62.
