This Might Fall into the Catagory of Buying the Plastic to Get the Coin. PCGS 66 with a Decent Strike it Looked Like as the Coin was Racing acroos My Computer Screen
Also Below are a Couple of Things that Got to Thier New Home Today. All and All a Good Merc Day for Me and Hopefully EveryOne else.

Al: The 26P and 23P are both FB Coins. The 27S was the one that Floored Me. At First Glance Without My Glasses image I thought PCGS had Screwed Up and forgot to put FB on the Holder. There is One Tiny Spot right in the Middle where they are not Joined. Whats the Grade on the 26P ? I bought that Coin without seeing a Picture of it. Its another Nice Suprise IMO. A Couple of Ticks but outside of that Very Nice. A Bath would do wonders for it.image
Lot of Neat Stuff came up on Ebay Today. Wish I had some Money for the 28D that showed up but it is Way to Close to April 15.image

Nice snag on the '39-S, Ken. I saw it about 2 hours too late, or I would have bought it. Congrats.

I like your new '26-P and '27-S. It really was a good day for you!

Forgot to say that the 26P was on a Ebay Auction that Did Not Sell. Sent the Seller a Offer and He Accepted. Wish I would have kept all of the Info on Him because He Got it to Me in 4 Days plus it is a Nice Coin.image

                Good Job Ken!

I am glad to see that you finally found a 39-S. BTW, you may need to rename your second set as having 50% FB doesnt qualify as a no bands set.... of course there is lots of nice toning...

                Ken, Ken, Ken:

What have I been telling you? How many times do I have to say "You can obtain no more dimes until my collection approaches much closer to your set."? Then you have to go and once again disobey. Plus you disobeyed by acquiring some truly nice coins. Though I am no ardent toning fan, the originality of the 23-P and 26-P are especially nice. But that's not an excuse--you disobeyed! I think I speak for many of us when I say "No ebay for you for a while. And, go stand in the corner in time-out. We'll let you know when you can leave the corner and when you get look at ebay again."

                                Don (Quattro):

A 24-S is a worthy coin--add away. By the way, aren't you afraid that I'll add another Barber quarter to my "set" and burst past you?? I think I'll start taunting you about adding a Barber quarter so maybe you become distracted and spend money on Barber quarters rather than Mercs.

Re the Poston Collection: Yeah, there sure were a bunch of coins added. I don't recognize the owner as posting on the boards. (And I immediately apologize if I haven't connected a collection to a poster!) It sure would be nice if the owner would join in and add to the harassment we offer each other! More seriously, I don't understand why someone would actively participate in the registry and not on the boards. It's fun to watch people you "talk" to progress by adding coins and hearing the triumphs of finding a coin. For instance, I think Ken hitting 90% completion is truly neat. And, when the rest of us also hit 90%, that will be even more fun! If I just added coins to my registry set, I'd miss out on all that as well as the rest of the wit and wisdom offered on these boards. But, to each his or her own...

                                    Ken,

I know what you mean about the no bands coins. Fortunately I just picked up a 23-P MS66 pop 9, none better in no bands. Have you noticed that common 40s Mercs in 67 no bands are going up in price? I just need a couple of those, but I cant seem to find a 44-D or a 45. Everyone thinks their 45-P has some percentage of bands that makes it worth more...NOT! 98% is still no bands.

                                                  Tim,

Welcome to what has to be the fastest growing Registry group. Congratulations on the impressive gains you've made in the past week.

I feel your pain (and Mark's), as to being poor; I just mailed Uncle Sam a check that could have been used to buy a '21 P or D in 64FB, and property taxes are due by the end of the month. image My additions have slowed down a bit, although I hope to have a couple next week, but I really want to find some of the semi-key dates. I think they'll have to wait another month or so, unless I see an irresistible coin. In that case, I'll just give up eating for a while.image

I also wonder if the influx of new Merc registry sets will exert upward pressure on prices. Probably not on the common dates, but possibly for the better dates. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

                                                  Tim:
You'd better not wait for me to add coins before you do because just like Jim (Cocoinut) I am sending my next several month's coin-buying money to the IRS. Boy, if Uncle Sam collected mercs, he could buy a some truly nice coins with the $$$ that some of us are sending him. And, as for Ken's (Fairlaneman) comment that one must gain my permission before adding a coin...yeah, right! How many times have I given permission? Zero!! And how many coins have been added? Infinite (or so it seems)!! I echo Pat's (PVetter) comment that no one gives a signal when they pass me.

Now, more seriously, I agree that AU58 is a favored PCGS grade--a couple of weeks ago I added the only Merc I've personally had slabbed by PCGS, one I bought 35 years ago. It graded the famous AU58. Now, I suspect it probably does deserve this grade, but I could still wish for something higher.

Also seriously, I echo everyone's comments that it's fun watching our sets move (slowly in my case) toward completion. It's a kick to share Ken's pleasure at finding a desired coin and I can sympathize with Dennis's displeasure about the results for his 20-D. Plus I think it's a lot more enjoyable to spend time conversing with others who have the same interest than to spend time flaming someone with whom I disagree.
