Anyone ever have trouble with items from BBCE?

This past weekend I finally decided to buy my first unopened boxes in about 10 years. I wanted to pickup one of all the Heritage Topps BB boxes. I spread the order around sevral dealers including BBCE. I wanted to try them for something anyway since I have read a lot of good things on here about them. While the boxes from the other dealers came in nice shape. The 2006 Heritage box had a couple of problems. As shown below, the top is pushed in breaking the inner box seal and in addition, the outer wrapping is seperated on the bottom of the box so it isn't even really sealed that way either. Just to be clear, i don't think it had been unsealed and sealed again but I would never sell a box of cars with the plastic separated like that as unopened and I would mention it in the ad. The boxes were wrapped nicely so I can't see this happening in shipping and I really wouldn't think a dealer of that stature would send out a box like that. Maybe they were busy packing for the National and an employee just grabbed it without really looking. I assume they will exchange the box but I can't contact them now since they are at the National. If I was planning to open the box it probably would not be a big deal but I plan to save the box unopened. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and should I be concerned or should I consider this still unopened? As a side note, the other box was a 2002 box which had a small tear in the plasstic but it appears that was their last box and I can understand how that might happen. Thank-you for your help.

    Jim,

I would think that Steve would make good on the box if you were not happy. Try sending a PM to him or his assistant, as they are both members of this forum. Good Luck.

  • I was part of a CU board group rip about 3 months ago (maybe more?) and a number of people recv'd 1980 Topps wax packs that had been opened and resealed. Checklists with check marks in pen and such. BBCE immediately refunded everyone for all of the 1980 packs, they handled it quickly and professionally. Bottom line is that you can never be 100% sure, but BBCE is about as close to it as you can get.

Agreed. After quite a few orders, I got some rack packs that were partially open. Steve immediately offered to replace them. Very fast service and I've pulled some amazing cards from their products.

Thank-you for your replies. I am sure I can get it replaced the only thing that bothered me was with their emphasis on unopened material it seemed like an obvious problem box to pack it up in the first place. An based on all I know I would have no problem in buying from them again so I don't want to give anyone that impression. But, if I didn't read these boards and had just bought from them based on an internet search with no other information, I would probably be hesitant to buy from them again. The whole first impressions thing.

As an aside, the boxes from my first unopened purchase in 10 years all came in today and I thought I would post a picture. Seeing them sitting on the table makes it hard not to open them all. Guess I will have to settle for opening the Lineage. Now to find a decently priced 2005/1956 Heritage box. I wonder if they will keep making Heritage to the point that they do the 86 - 89 Topps. Might pass on those but would like to see 1965, 71 and 75 heritage sets.

I think his point is that while packaging or advertising the box, it should have been briefly inspected since the rips were blatantly obvious. I understand vintage unopened comes with caveats, but at what point do you just assume a rip and tear are fine - of you have to charge less for these boxes.

I believe there were at leat two boxes sold and only one was bad. They refunded everyone and let each keep the packs they had.

They deal with a lot of unopened material and I could see how packing multiple boxes for shipping, this can be overlooked. It' possible with the weight that it could have happened during the shipping and handling process. If it happened beforehand, they should have realized it. However, BBCE will always be numbero uno! They are the ones that sent me vintage packs with HOF's on front.
