Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
I just got back from the National, I was in the aisle when this went down about 40-50 ft from the booth. Needless to say it was the talk of that end of the convention center for awhile.
I did not know why they got cuffed and taken out, but they were definately escorted out. rumor was on the floor the guy was selling fake stuff. The news story seems to support this accusation.

<< <i>Anyone hear that REA is also under investigation??????? >>
Really? What for? >>
Don't know, its a rumor thats going around. I find it hard to believe. >>
I don't. I read a while back that they were being sued for like $1 million by a guy who claimed they sold him fakes. >>
Seems to me they were under investigation like 2-3 years ago. I know the FBI things hasn't closed it's case yet...or annouced its findings...but I don't imagine they are being investigated anymore. Surely being watched...as all auction houses have been.
Shame the FBI is taking so long on this. The Minn. man only got caught and arrested because they trapped him.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards. Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
I generally just stay away from memorabilia, but I would imagine that auction houses use third party authenticators which would make it more difficult to prove they knew the items were fake.

In this guy's case, if he knew enough to grant a refund to the first buyer then he knew enough not to re-auction the item(s). He should have taken a loss like a decent person. Instead he chose to be a scumbag about it and now he's really taking a loss.
<< <i>This made me think of that George Brett uniform thread where the tag was questionable. Where is that thread? >>
I started that thread because it was my jersey which was sold in yesterday's Heritage Auction at the National. I saw no sense in arguing the point about the tag, because the jersey and pants were obtained basically straight from the team in late 1980. I have absolutely no doubts about it. Heritage uses MEARS as their authenticator, and they gave it their highest rating, A10.
I never wanted to sell the piece, but since it was probably my most valuable item I needed to do so to pay some debts. While it sold decently ($8000) it did sell for less than the $10K estimate, and I had actually hoped for a little bit more so now I gotta dig something else out of the depths of the closet. Stock market drop probably didn't help either.

Is that the one that they ran a dna test on the sh*tstains inside the pants and came back with a "likely not genuine" result?
