Pre '80: Who has the most copies of 1 card?

I know we all have (had) 800 count bricks of the next greatest player to come along. I was wondering who had the most copies of the same card, pre 1980.

To get started, I have 30, 1972 Topps Yaz IA and 30, 1975 Topps Frank Robinsons.

Anyone else?

  • I haven't done anything pre-80, but I had about 600 Peyton Manning RC's at one point
  • I wish I would have bought a few thousand of those for a few cents each....

I don't think you ever could have.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

I don't remember the exact time frame (sorry memory foggy just got out of the hospital earlier this week), but I was scooping them up for about 5-10% of BV, and pulled 20%+ all day.

I know I have an 800 count box full of 1977 Brett and another full of Rose. I think I have a box full of 1973 Rose too. I have other boxes full of one player as well I just can't remember who they are. When I first started collecting I remember getting 1977 was boxes for $60. My first star on top pack was a 1975 Brett rack pack for $40. Collecting was so much more fun and affordable then. I am just glad most of my sets are done.
  • I do have 4 of these and its not the most common card-

Those are pretty cool Clementes! But I am curious as to the different border sizes. How were these issued and what would account for that?

At one time I had about 40 1978 Topps Mike Bossy rookies (app. half Topps/half OPC).

The 1979 Topps Bossy #230 I had close to 100.

Still have a brick of about 50 1979 Gretzky OPC rookies, but they're not real.

Quite an impressive list. But, my question is why. Why do you have so many of one player? Do you have to purchase every '76 Perry you come across?

I believe the technical term is OCD!?

I have a touch myself so I think I am allowed to call it like it is.

I'd like the full box of 1973 Rose's. I knew that card must be rare. But in all seriousness....that's a decent amount of coin unless they all look like Levi's PSA 4's. image
  • I have about 120 1962 Topps Billy Kilmer Rookies and maybe 35-40 Post Cereal same year.
