...for us that cannot attend. Videos would be even better, especially some closeups of what BBCE has or other eye-popping cards from other dealers. Thanks.

Anyone know who Panni is bringing in to sign? As usual there is a lack of basketball signers this year.

<< <i>Now, I'm from Hawaii, and we don't have snakes, and all the years on the mainland, I've never seen one in the "wild" (meaning not in the zoo.) Naturally, I had to take a picture. >>
Wow, I didn't know they didn't have snakes in Hawaii. I'm always amazed at what I can learn from this board.

<< <i>That's a bit overwhelming. >>
The National itself is a bit overwhelming! I've attended the last two, one day each, and didn't come close to seeing everything that I wanted to.
A big thank you for posting those BBCE pictures. FB is blocked at work, but not the board thank goodness.
I would have a field day there. Already working on the wife for next year's National.

"Based upon the success of the 2010 National in Baltimore, exhibitors were very enthusiastically looking forward to a return trip to the city. However, in the presentations made by Baltimore to host the 2014 National, there were two major drawbacks. First, the 2014 dates were much later in August than the National had ever been held and second, the Convention Center could not enter into a contract with the National to guarantee the 2014 dates until sometime in 2012. Negotiations with Visit Baltimore, the Convention and Visitors Bureau for the city, went on for several months until an agreement was reached for dates in 2012 (August 1-5). The National had a previous contract with Cleveland for the 2012 National. Discussions with Clevelands I-X Center resulted in an agreement to move the 2012 National to 2014 and to schedule the 2018 National for Cleveland. A mail ballot was sent to exhibitors to approve these changes and the proposal was overwhelmingly approved.
The current schedule for the National is:
2011-Chicago
2012-Baltimore
2013-Chicago
2014-Cleveland
2015-Chicago
2016-TBD
2017-TBD
2018-Cleveland
Organizers have been asked about a return of the National to the West Coast. For the last several years we have repeatedly spoken to authorities in Anaheim, site of the most successful National ever in 1991 and also the site of the National in 1996, 2000 and 2006. Similar to the situation in Baltimore, the Convention Center has a rigid policy which will not allow them to guarantee dates to us. Despite our past history, numerous meetings, phone calls and letters, Anaheim officials have been unable to provide the National with dates far enough in advance to allow adequate preparation and planning for the event. We will continue to look for a suitable West Coast site."

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Whenever a 1986/87 Fleer Basketball wax pack is opened on the show floor, a crowd gathers to see what's coming out.
There's nervous anticipation, not only from the buyer, but from his friends and fellow collectors as well.
Of course, interested parties are also looking to see if the Jordan hasn't been pulled yet, because if not, the odds get just a little better if they decide they want to have a crack at it.
Jordan rookie packs might be the best deal in unopened wax. There is a 1 in 11 mathematical chance of pulling a Jordan, and the collation from Fleer during the 80s basketball years runs true all the time.
If you've ever opened a $350 pack, you probably would be a little nervous. Your hands might start to shake as you slide each card one by one.
Onlookers are also interested in seeing how the centering runs in the box as well. A well-centered box will almost always lead to a rush of customers all hoping that even if they don't get a Jordan, they might pull potential gem mint commons, some worth thousands of dollars!
Even if you don't pull a Jordan rookie, you also have a chance of getting a Jordan sticker, also available 1 every 11 packs. It's visible through the back of the pack, and collectors are usually willing to pay $500-600 for these packs.
In a matter of a couple hours, we sold 31 packs out of a 36 pack box! Several packs were opened at the show, and several packs were taken back to the hotel room so their new owners could open them in private.
Proud owner of a pack-fresh Jordan rookie! This was the only Jordan to be pulled at our booth on Thursday. Steve received a call later that night from a gentleman who bought several packs with his son, and they pulled the second Jordan rookie out of the box.
I picked up some 59 Topps Baseball PSA 8s.I will post scans of some of the set and 59s after I download them Sat Morning as I am going to sleep most of today. Some great stuff to be found on the Vintage end that you do not see every day.I can not rank this as one of the better Nationals I went to however still well done and organized and worth attending for sure. Most of the dealers were very helpful and professional and there were the few that appeared that it was bothersome for them to get up off their chair or get off their laptop to aknowedge the buyer. If you go this weekend have fun and let your money do the rest.

Couldn't agree with you more. I'd like to think we've been very attentive to customers throughout the show. All the BBCE employees have a sore back and sore legs from walking all around the booth. Dinner at Gibson's tonight helped ease some of the pain.

RB, has some insane stuff that I am hoping he will show the boards. Looking forward to seeing a particular 63 again Ron!
It's always nice to put a face with a screen name, so with that, the guy a few pictures above in the Iowa shirt is board member Kurt-BBCEmporium.
<< <i>Its amazing that one person/company can own so much. Forget redistribution of wealth, how about redistribution of unopened packs >>
Just for clarification, there were about five groups this year with a significant amount of 70s/80s unopened product from the four major sports. However, none of them compared to BBCE in terms of attentiveness, variety, and cost. BBCE was either slightly ahead or way ahead of everyone in each regard. This isn't news, but it can't be said enough. When you deal with the other big unopened players out there, you're gambling. Plus, the BBCE guys are firendly in a room full of mopes.
As for the rest of the show, pretty standard stuff. The auction houses had some killer stuff in their preview cases and it was amazing to see so many $50k+ cards up close. Lots of excellent pre war all around the room. Got to take a close look at Probstein's SGC 98 Gretzky and it is truly amazing. Also ran into a guy who had just gotten a 52 Mantle back in a PSA 7 case and was peddling it to the big dealers for $35k out of a backpack. Tough to relate to that, but it was interesting to be around.
Tried to close on a couple of mid grade early 50s cards and seemed to find myself only dealing with older guys who didn't realize it isn't 1982 and we all actually have access to market pricing info. For example, big card in PSA 5 w/ VCP at $525 is sitting in case with a $1000 tag on it. I ask if he's firm on the listed price and he says, "If my price isn't quite right, I could always raise it for you." Not even a hint of a smile. Fair enough, I guess. I'll spend my money elsewhere, and so will everyone else with half a brain.

Did you happen to see any unopened '78 or '79 Topps Baseball? >>
Packs, not boxes. I was only there Friday, though. Better stuff may have been gobbled up Wed/Thu. I will say that there seemed to be more late 70s football than baseball.
