He didn't just "up and [leave] the team". He was hitting .184 and embarrassing himself at the plate. He quit when it was obvious he couldn't get it done - and he most definitely talked about it with team officials beforehand.

Wow really? Maybe ONE of the biggest pain in the azz but you cant question his talent, I mean 954 receptions, 14858 yards and 153 touchdowns is pretty dam good.
I am a Vikings fan, and was as excited as anyone when he arrived and "changed the game" but as the years went by just got sick of his performance as well as his attitude. He did have more physical gifts than any receiver I have seen, but he could have accomplished so much more. It's a TEAM sport.
Chris Carter had some similar issues at the start of his career and decided to dedicate himself to the game. He later was given the task of trying to mentor Moss and was unable to get through to him. Too bad.

You are more than welcome to your opinion; but in my opinion Griffey up and left. He was literally worshipped by fans in the NW and never held a press conference or anything. I am from the Seattle area and I can tell you that many people were a little upset to say the least. You are correct that he was done; but I think he owed the fans more. I mean let's face it... he was brought back to Seattle in 2009 for the fans and filling some seats....it not like he was an all star at the time.

His stats would be better fopr sure, they would also be better had he not played on that Oakland Raider team which had arguebly the worst QB ever to set foot on the field LOL
You being A Viking Fan I can see your point and dont blame you for your bad feelings towards Moss, I loved him in that '07 season with NE which showed in the right situation he was a stud ( same as when Culpepper was a good QB )
What player in any sport got "bored" (his coaches words, not mine) if he wasn't involved early in a game?
Oh yeah, he was really special when the Vikes got him back for a second time, a move that makes the Hershal Walker trade look like a stroke of genius.
Biggest quitter in the history of sports, even walked off the field once with time left on the clock and Offense had the ball. When accused with dogging it on several occasions, simply said "I'm tired from running up and down the field".
Winners never quit!

I'm in Spokane myself and was glad when he retired. He should have never come back for another year in 2010. He did the fans a favor by retiring - who wants to remember and overweight Griffey swinging and missing constantly?
As for not holding a press conference, so what? He retired quietly - that's how it should be done.
Anybody that was upset with him retiring simply didn't watch his last season and a half.
