Wrestling All Stars new Pop 1 additions!!!!Updated with two new Pop 1's...

I paid top dollar for these but am thrilled to advance my top three sets!!!! It is very rare I can do so and especially five cards!!

Super tough card and a real legend from the WWWF days

image

This is by far one of the most difficult cards. A huge star in the CWF with Jerry Lawler. I can't tell you how many raw cards I have bought with no luck and decided no choice but to pay up for the pop 1 PSA 9 Mint.

image

A huge wrestling legend. Super tough card with only one other PSA 9 Mint I had to have the only PSA 10!!!

image

I still can't figure out why this WWWF champion is not more popular. A PSA 10 Gem Mint is awesome as this card is off centered many times with bad printing issues. Love it!!!

A member of the Rock N Roll Express Ricky Morton. Awesome card and thrilled to have all three of the blue cards from the 1983 set in PSA 10 Gem Mint!!!

These were not cheap but awesome additions to my sets!!!

Hell yeah Ricky Morton...and I'm assuming that's Robert Gibson standing beside him, but cut out of the picture. When I was young and watching wresting, we didn't get WWF where I lived in south Georgia. We only got NWA. But the Rock N Roll Express were the KINGS of NWA. Basically, Flair and 4 Horseman made up the key "Bad guys" and Dusty Rhodes and the Rock N Roll Express were my favorite "Good Guys". They did this incredible move where Morton got on the top turnbuckle, Gibson got on top of an adjacent turbuckle and they both flew off the top rope simultaneously and drop kicked the dude at the same time. It was, in my opinion, the most electric finishing move in wrestling. Once your a$$ got double drop kicked by the Rock N Roll Express, it was time for the tV audience to take a bathroom break, because you were NOT getting up from the mat.

    McAdams,

It is actually Ken Lucas. They were basically a similar team.

I did not get cable until 1992. I mowed yards and begged to get to see cable wrestling. We would get our neighbors to record the Clash of the Champions and WCCW from Texas. I would mow your yard for a Clash of the Champions on video.

In terms of finishing the sets, they will never surface in all Gem Mint grades. There is no chance. Getting closer on some but certain cards will never grade that high.

The toughest card is the last card from set 83 Wrestling All Stars with Matt Borne. Later known as the main Doink The Clown. If anyone other then me and a few get serious about the sets that is the card that will be the trump card from a grading standpoint.

Monster pickups, dpeck. How many do you have left to find in 9 or better?
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
There are 108 cards from all three sets. I need 9 more to have all in a PSA 9 or higher. I also have the highest grade available in 99 of the cards too.

I only have one PSA 7 and it is the Matt Borne card which is impossible. It is card number 36 in set three and that is why I am so pumped to get the Austin Idol which is card number 35. Both have terrible corner damage and little blue printing dots all over them in most cases.

There is someone out there secretly subbing small amounts of these of the big stars.

The card I want the most is the Andre The Giant PSA 9 and it has not come for sale. There is also a Chrusher PSA 9 that has never surfaced and someone just got the Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase in a PSA 10.

The current price is no surpise. I am actually happy to see it getting so much action.

There is a PSA 8 that is very nice up too and that is a great card as well.

The last few sold for $305, $445, and then $330.

It is a super tough card in PSA 8.

  • wrestlingcardkingwrestlingcardking Posts: 4,555 ✭✭✭✭
If the PSA 9 is over a $1000, which it will, there should be a line of people trying to get the PSA 8 because there will be very few PSA 9 Andres. I don't think you will see many 9s at all, many issues with them as you well know.

If an insert card of some un proven baseball, football plaer etc. can go for thousands I think an Andre PSA 8 at $300+ is a steal. I would say at least 70% of the Andre cards in existance would get a PSA 5 or below.

The Andre PSA 9 will go for more then $1,000.
  • I agree, prospects are at their highest before they play a major league game. Hulk and Andre are icons.

I am always on the hunt. The raw cards that have yet to be graded in most cases are not worthy. The number of cards printed is extremely low and time will prove that point.

Most cards are EX-MT and below. It is getting very hard to find any raw cards worth grading.

Just picked this bad boy up today!!! I now have all three purple cards in PSA 10 Pop1. DIbiase, Junkyard Dog, and Dusty Rhodes.
  • Nice pick up. Is that the card PWCC was selling?
  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
I bought it from PSA Gems. It was not cheap but I needed it. I am down to only two cards from the 1982 Wrestling All Stars A that I do not have in the top grade available.

Yes that is one out there I need. I do know a guy who has one but he wants to use it as a strong bargaining chip and I am not interested in that. I bought a bunch of cards from him around Christmas time last year.

I am not parting ways with any of my 10's or star 9's. I am just under 600 PSA graded cards at this point.

I added two new Pop 1's to my sets.

The only card I am thrilled to have in a PSA 8 is the Matt Borne I just added. There is a very small chance this card will surface in a PSA 9 and no chance of a PSA 10. This card has so many factory flaws and is the last card in the cellophane brick.

This card is a super tough card. The orange cards have terrible centering and tend to show wear very easily on the corners. At this point there are no PSA 10's of any of the three orange cards and this is a great addition to my set.

Thanks guys. Still working on finding cards that can upgrade the sets. Getting really tough as the raw cards I have bought lately have been not the best quality so they get put in a card saver and into the stash.

  • Rheingans wrestled in the first live match I ever saw, at the Rosemont Horizon in March of 1987. A longtime AWA guy, he had just joined the WWF as a curtain-jerker. He worked Dino Bravo that night.

  • Dpeck100Dpeck100 Posts: 10,912 ✭✭✭✭✭
I never had heard of him before I got interested in these cards but now that I find out he trained Brock Lesnar his stock has gone up with me!

This guy had quite an impressive background leading up to his pro wrestling days.
  • Yeah, he was mostly an AWA/Minnesota guy, so you probably didnt see him much down in the southeast. He was supposed to wrestle in the 1980 Olympics before Carter boycotted, and then he coached for the '84 team.

  • wrestlingcardkingwrestlingcardking Posts: 4,555 ✭✭✭✭
Met him at the Olympic Trials in 2008 in Las Vegas as they were honoring Team USA who did not get to compete in the 1980 Olympics. Brad Rheingans is a great guy. Enjoyed my short time talking to him.

Yeah I grew up watching Championship Wrestling from Florida at the time and he was working in the AWA.

I was born in 1979 so I was a toddler when this was going down. That is one of the reasons I like these sets so much is I loved wrestling as a child but would have never known about this era. My generation thought Wrestlemania III was the first time Hulk and Andre ever met. Could not have been further from the truth.
