How long do you typically give a buyer to pay?

I have a question. After some time has elasped, Ebay automatically files cases for non-paying bidders. It hardly ever comes into play for my auctions, but did today. So my question is this - typically how long do you give a buyer to pay before a NPB form is filed?

Now the irate customer cancelled bids on other items. I am automatically set up to file a NPB after two weeks. Is that unreasonable?
  • I typically send out an invoice two to three days after auction close. If I get no payment or response within two days after that, I'll message the buyer asking if they plan on paying for the item. I typically wait one day after that to file an NPB if they don't respond. Ebay automatically sends an invoice at auction close, so that's three times they're reminded to pay, and they're given 5-6 days to at least let me know that they do intend to pay, which is way more than enough, IMO. I'm not interested in holding items for people who bid with money they don't have or 'forget' to pay.

Absolutely not. The buyer should have had the decency to let you know that he was holding payment to see if he could win some of your other items so he could have them all shipped together, but I guess you also should have seen that he was bidding on some of your other items as well. Just a little communication from either side would have prevented this.

Two weeks is ENTIRELY too long to pay for an item!! He won 9 items from me, so my stars will probably be maliciously hit. It is buyers like these that is the main reason good Ebay sellers are leaving the site in droves!

I agree that two weeks is way too long, but did you try contacting him before the auto NPB kicked in? Dude bought nine items and was apparently bidding on more...If I were you, I'd email him and apologize for the automatic NPB being opened (you weren't wrong to have it set at two weeks, but you should have noticed that this guy was still buying and obviously trying to save on shipping by waiting to pay).
  • I am not by any means a high volume seller, but here's what I do:

*day 4- invoice to buyer (unless I had to create one for combined shipping, then I send an invoice on day 1 also)
*day 10- EBay message reminder to buyer- "you won this auction on X date, and I still have not received payment. If you still intend to purchase this item, please pay by (day 14), or I will need to file a claim with EBay and relist the item. Thank you."
    *day 14- file NPB

I have only had to file a NPB claim once, and the buyer responded to my opening the claim by paying for the item.

Dude did pay for the two that were two weeks old, and the 7 others. I apologized to him, and explained to him that I am set up on auot-pilot, and that I give all my good buyers 2 weeks. This is the first time it has ever kicked in. I apologized profusely, but he still cancelled his bids on other items, and because of that, has made my blocked bidder list.

    funny.

it's been two weeks since somebody won 9 items from me.....tried contacting with no response, and then checked his feedback to discover another seller just slammed him for not paying or communicating.

    filed the NPB's this morning.

typically i give people 7 days and most pay much sooner than that.

pretend you run a candy shop or a toy store. most people who visit your store will show you respect, pay for their goods and be on their way.

but, occasionally you get those little demons that like to steal, knock stuff off the shelves or just spit on your freshly mopped floor.

If you're not doing big volume, it is prolly best to disable the
    auto-NPB.

ANPB does cause a fast payment, but it makes buyers mad.

    ............................

    Not a hijacking, but a fun story. EBAY says this "never" happens;
I say it regularly happens to me and thousands of sellers. (Tho,
mine tend to be less extreme; sweat/puke stained items are
    usually what I get back.)

For folks too busy to read the whole novel, the seller is going to
    get a "courtesy refund."

    Serial Thieving Buyer Strikes Again

EBAY says they "want to hear" about such incidents, so they can
    "monitor" the buyer's future conduct.

    EDIT ADD:

This is an indication of where EBAY might be headed.

They could become an "approval service," for buyers
that wanna get the items before they pay for them.

The whole company has gone CRAZY.

    BUT, it gets even better.

Mandatory shipping of items within 24-hours of payment. (That is not unreasonable, but
    most sellers will hate it.)

Mandatory "question answering" within 24-hours. If the seller does not answer within that
time, an EBAY CS-critter will answer "the question to the best of his ability." (That
is hilarious; the monkeys cannot even give a straight answer on EBAY TOS; now, they
are going to answer questions about sellers' items.)
    image

Buyers can print their own return shipping labels at will, for the box of rocks they wanna
    send back.

If a seller doesn't offer a "30-day money back guarantee," his items will not appear in
    a segregated search.

Wow...you are too nice. My auto NPB kicks in after 4 days so they have 8 days to pay. Have never had an issue yet.
