Flowing Hair 2 vs 3 leaves history...

I suppose this is a trivial question, but has anyone ever read why the mint engraved 2 leaves vs 3 leaves on the reverse of the Flowing Hair dollars? Was there any significance to this like a different engraver involved? Does the Overton book or another tell which engraver did which die (variety) perhaps?

There is the one variety (I believe only one?) of the Flowing Hair half dollar that was a 3 leaf, the 1795/1795 O-111. I'm thinking they were copying the dollar coin, but it almost would seem that once its reverse developed that mongrel die crack they may have abandoned the die and reverted back to the 2 leaf. Just guessing here? If anyone knows any history about the leaves, I would love to hear...

These coins have made me more curious about the techniques the mint employed such a long time ago, many of which baffle the hell out of me (like making adjustment markings, plugging, etc)!

Such a cool coin. I happen to own one too. So let this be said, both you and I own one of the coolest coins out there! There just isn't enough of them to go around for everyone else to enjoy!

Regarding 2 leaves vs. 3 leaves early dollars there were several engravers involved
at the mint during their production. Further, some believe the wreath leaves were
among the designs entered on the dies using punches.
