Vintage Player collectors, don't you wish your player(s) had better pictures/action shots on their c

With my focus on George Brett and Mike Schmidt, i've really noticed more so, that they both lack in the "cool looking" picture on their cards.

Schmidt's rookie is ugly, and the rest of his 70s issues lack creativity. His 74 and 76 arent sore on the eyes, but the other 70s? not so much.
Brett's Rookie and his '77 both look fantastic. His 79 isnt bad, but for a guy that is known for his bat, his base topps cards sure seemed to miss the mark in that department over the years.

Just thought i'd throw that out there.

    It's all too true.

Things began to turn around a little in the 80's (you won't find a cooler card from the era than Cal's '83 Topps), but even then they could be terribly lazy. The run of bland Dale Murphy base cards ('83-'85 and '87 are all nondescript spring training shots) comes to mind.

My biggest beef is Topps failed to include retired players in their sets, so most players never had a card with all of their stats. How cool would it be if there was a '77 Aaron, a '74 Mays, a '67 Koufax, or a '64 Musial. Some of these guys were on league leader, team, & World Series cards, they should've been on a regular card too.

The '70 Topps really cracks me up as 1969 (when the photo was taken) was Harmon's MVP season... and the best pic Topps has is him selecting a bat? Wow.

2.5 is pretty much my speed.

I'm a Roy Campanella collector and I guess I'm lucky in that I love almost every card he has. The only one that I really dislike is his '55 Bowman and that's mostly because I hate the entire set. Might be the ugliest set ever made. LOL

scmavl.........I collect Killebrew and I kind of like the 1970, it's a little different than most player photos, but considering it's his MVP year card, Topps could certainly have done better.

I really like Killer's rookie, it's not one of those multi-player cards, most of those are ugly. I don't like that Topps seemed to use the same basic photo for Killebrew's cards from 1955 through 1959. His 1961 card is VERY unflattering, I am surprised Harm allowed his picture to be taken without a hat.

After that I like the rest of his cards and am glad Topps left him out of the 1976 set when he would have been pictured as a Royal.image

The real killer is when you see Bazooka cards or some of the non-card items Topps had (like the posters or the decals) that have great photos. Topps obviously had a nice catalog of images. I just wish they had been more careful in selecting what was going to be on the main cards, in the '60's in particular.
