I wouldn't exactly call it a missed payday. It was only $500 that he was offered. It was probably cooler for him to meet the player and get some autographs.

this is a poke at our prior discussions regarding the gentleman who caught the Jeter ball rebound - remember, it hit his Dad first

obviously, it's a greater piece of sentiment than anything else, but what if the guy tears it up during his career and that ball becomes substantially more valuable? hence, the "Missed payday".

Hample also runs a blog and travels from park to park chasing baseballs, so this is nothing new to him.

apparently, he'd prefer to soak in a tub full of them.

That guy has baseballs coming out of his ears. He probably gave Trout a batting practice ball and kept the real HR ball for himself.
