Need some help with an autograph collection - Pics added

As some of you guys know I've been going through a lot of my dad's old collection, and recently I came across a binder full of autographs. Most of it is 3x5 cards that he had signed TTM. There are also a few HOF plaque postcards signed. Basically what I'm wondering is if I need to have them all PSA/DNA certified before trying to sell any of them. Or which ones would make the most sense to do without wasting money. I'm not big on auto collecting so I was planning to sell most of them, probably keeping some of the bigger HOFers.
Here's what I found:
HOF Postcards
George Kelly
Earl Averill
Burleigh Grimes
Billy Herman
Lou Boudreau
Judy Johnson
William Terry
Joe Sewell
Bob Lemon
Waite Hoyt
Early Wynn
Hank Greenberg

Nice stuff but I wouldn't bother with the certs. Most of those listed won't sell for 50% of the regular PSA/DNA fee as the supply of many of these names far exceeds the demand. If you can post pics/scans of the ones you can't tell we can probably fill in the blanks for you. You'd probably be even better off trying to sell them on the BST board.

For Burleigh Grimes you'd be best off posting a scan here, his wife signed a lot of his mail.

Dimaggio, Mays and Aaron, might we worth sending in on a $10/$15 special. The Dimaggio is another you might want to post a scan here as his sister signed a lot of his mail.

It's important that you get a good opinion from the guys here before you send anything in to PSA/DNA. Unlike cards, there are no refunds or vouchers if the autograph doesn't pass.

    Here is what needs PSA/DNA:
    HOF PLAQUES
Hank Greenberg - Good Money Needs sent in Last PSA/DNA sold $170
Lloyd Waner - Needs sent in Last one sold $40
    Bill Terry - Sells decent Uncertified $5 , W/Sticker Certification $10-15, Encased $30
    Waite Hoyt -sells decent Uncertified $10 , PSA/DNA $38

    3X5's
Hank Greenberg JSA $73 PSA/DNA $119, one seller accepted a best offer of $60
"Cool Papa" Bell - You should be able to get $30-35 certified
Joe DiMaggio- Always worth sending in
Stan Musial - Uncertified $10 at the most certified 35 + $5 Shipping
Willie Mays - always worth sending in
Hank Aaron- Always worth sending in

The next question is are these real? Many players have ghost signers. Scans will need posted of these.

  • Thanks for the info! I posted a few pics of the Greenberg autos. I would have posted more scans but a bad storm came through this weekend and lightning struck and fried my cable modem so I have no internet at home. I snapped a couple crappy pics with my phone. Anyway, one thing I encountered with the Greenberg plaque postcard is that there was some kind of sticky substance on it inside the binder page that it was in. I stuck it in the freezer, which allowed me to get it removed, but there was a little bit of paper loss as you can see in the pic. I was able to use Goo Gone to remove most of the sticky junk. The signature isn't as good on the postcard as it is on the index card, but it is what it is I guess. They won't be out with a new cable modem until Wednesday, but I will try to snap a few pics of the other guys sigs that you mentioned and see what you think.

  • Hmmm... is $10 usually the cheapest that they offer for authenticating? Also... what is the best way to submit this stuff to them? Right now everything is in 4-pocket pages in a binder. Should I leave everything in that and ship it with some cardboard backing in a Flat Rate Priority envelope? Or take them all out and put them in something smaller? I assume I'd be sending maybe 20 or so to get authenticated.

Yes, $10 is the best PSA/DNA blue flip + Encapsulation - I've seen. You might also want to think about getting the auto graded on some of the high priced guys - some people pay extra for strong number grade autographs.

You will need to remove the auto's from the binder - not sure the best way to ship but I'm sure there must be some type of top loader or sleve index cards would fit in. For shipping I'd recommend using USPS flat rate box
