Good evening:
I’m nearly at the end of an accumulation of U.S. coins that I am selling for friend of the family. Below are photos of two Morgans: 1882-CC prooflike GSA and 1878-S.
1882-CC Prooflike. This coin has a fairly thick frost on all devices , obverse and reverse, as well as what I call deep mirrors in the fields. No toning and no spotting whatsoever. Obverse fields have light luster breaks in an arc (from 7 o’clock to 11 o’clock) and no milky haze. The reverse fields are also quite clean markwise, but DO have some haze as you can see. If I were buying this coin, I would consider it to be a technical MS-60. Thus, that’s how I represent it as the seller. I have, however, seen PCGS and NGC give MS61 and MS62 to coins which are no more clean on the obverse and less clean on the reverse. [Note: this coin comes in the original GSA case of course, and the original box is included. But there is no insert with the historical notes.) Asking 235.00 delivered.
1878-S Morgan.
To me, this is an attractively toned coin overall, and NT as well, with cartwheel luster. A thin band of lustrous sunset orange lies around the peripheries of the obverse and reverse, while the interiors are a combination of lustrous, pale sea-green and gunmetal blue which are much more apparent than I, as a novice photographer, was able to capture. (The blue is most prominent surrounding the tailfeathers and above the hair.) This toning is neither dark nor splotchy, and I believe that it is due to the coin having resided in an older album or envelope. Additionally, as you can see in the photos below, the breast feathers and leg feathers have a flat pinkish-brown tone (which I personally find unfortunate). Some high points of the obverse, too, have this feature, though nowhere near as conspicuously.
I detect no rub on the bow or the tailfeathers or the cheek or the curls. I thus believe that the coin is mint state, in which case I would say that its technical grade is MS63 or 4.

Just for fun, I got out my fourth printing of VAM and did some checking. I have nothing to report except that I am damn glad I am not into THAT!
Photos were taken with a Nikon Coolpix 950 with white balance at the incandescent setting, then adjusted slightly in hue and saturation (the 78-S only) to best match the coin in hand. (I stress that the blues and greens of the 78-S are not as muted as the photos suggest.)
Terms: I will ship to domestic addresses only, insured. Personal check and postal money orders ok, the former of which must clear, please. I don’t take Paypal. There is a return privilege; if for any reason you find the coin lacking, please have the coin in the mail within 7 days of receipt for a refund of the price of the coin minus my actual postage and insurance costs. Safe return in original condition is the responsibility of the buyer.
