I'd go $13 but folks regularly pay $16.95 for em given the price of Bullion Silver.

I can't believe I just saud that! image
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

The 11 pc. proof Ike sets (PCGS-PR69DCAM) I am building this week have about a 50-50 mix of Peg leg and non Peg Leg.

Check out those Peg Leg 71-S Proofs VERY carefully!image

They could be the FS-103 or the FS-106.

There are only a handful of each of these VERY RARE Cherrypicker's Guide Varieties known to exist.

Either one can be worth WELL over $1K in a PCGS attributed holder.image

I've been searching for those 71-S Peg Leg DIVA's (Designated Ike Varieties) for years and only coming up with one of each.
At least, when I finally found them, they were NICE ones!

My #1 All Time Proof Ike DIVA & Variety Set

With Silver prices as high as they are, many of these 71-S proofs are being sent to the the smelter...which makes the DIVA's even MORE scarce!
Look for them while you can....before they get melted for Silver content.

I would like to see them as well!

I don't have access to them right now....They are in the bank.
However, I believe Rob has pics of them for the book. Maybe he can post them. They would be much better than any
scans or pics I could do of them!image

The 71-S FS-103 and FS-106 have chapters dedicated to them in our book. Both chapter have all the lingo
and pics to help one identify both.
The doubling is WAY too messed up for me to describe! About the best I can do is say that the doubling goes BOTH
ways...meaning there is a heavy sift to the right side as well as the left. Most DDO's just have the notching
on one side or the other.

The 72-S FS-101 and 73-S FS-101 are much easier to describe....
They both have chapters dedicated to them.
Both chapters have all the identification lingo and pics you would need to help identify them as well.

For the short version of the identifying lingo....The 72-S FS-101 NEEDS to have tripling visible in the MOTTO on the:
Top of the S, Top and bottom of the G, Top and bottom of the T, Bottoms of the I and N, bottom legs of the R
All tripling is on the right-hand side of the letters.

The 73-S FS-101 has a long, curving die scratch that goes about 1 cm. above the ear, then curving around the ear,
and intersecting EXACTLY at the top of the middle line in the neck. This die scratch is mentioned in the CPG, but is
hard to see in the picture.
There are other 73-S Silver Ikes that have curving die scratches on Ike's neck, but only
the one that intesects the top, middle neckline gets the FS-101 designation.

Hope that helps for now....I'll get in touch with Rob on the pics.

    Happy Hunting!

  • I'm working today (Census) so time only to refer you to ARED's WDDO-022, (Wiles DDO-0006) for the FS-106, and to WDDO-008 for the FS-103.

In our books, the FS-103 is Chapter 15, the FS-106 is Chapter 16.

  • Oops, meant to comment that the peg leg proof pictured shows enough fade that it is not the Original Design Straight Peg Leg. In the book I make a case for both the unfaded Original Design Straight Peg Leg and the "fully faded" die-state peg leg should become collectibles as they both have a mintage before melt of around 100,000. (Chapter 8.)

The peg legs for the most part were minted and shipped in December based on multiple purchases of 5-pack shipments, while the "Funny Foot" Serif-R's seem to have been minted in March 1972 (2,806,244) and June (236,820), and based on multiple purchases of dated 5-pack boxes were shipped in that time frame. So, best numbers one can come up with from published US Mintage and our purchases of Month/Day dated Blue pack purchases are:

    71-S Peg Legs = 1,222,170
    71-S Serif-R === 3,043,064

So roughly one in four 71-S Ike proofs is the peg leg variety: of these peg legs, 5 to 10% are un-faded Original Design Straight Peg Legs and 5 - 10% are "fully faded" die-state peg legs and thus our estimate that these two extremes on the continuum of fade have a pre-melt pop of around 100,000.
