    Wow, that's great!

Likely the crook realized he had a valuable coin, and couldn't remove it from the slab to "launder" it without losing the value.

I take back everything bad I've ever said about a PR70. image

If you wanted the coin back after it is retrieved by the Postal Service you will probably just have to repay them what you received on the claim. Do you want it back?

Dont want it back. If you recall, I was sending it back to PCGS for their "guarantee service" because I thought it was no longer a pr70 because of spotting.

the ironic thing is that the postal service will probably put this coin in an online auction after it is "recovered."

    Alan,

I'm delighted at your news. I have lost 3 submissions in the last 6 mos, and hope the USPS solves the problem once and for all.

  • Does anyone know why PCGS doesn't use a street address instead of a PO Box , so we could send our stuff by means other than USPS ?
Although , I've heard UPS is doing PO Boxes now. Thanks !! Keep us informed as to whether they find the people that took your coin.

Last I knew (it's been a couple years) PCGS had a special street address for FedEx deliveries if you want to use them.

  • Hey Alan,
    glad you found it!
It is a great day when the crook is caught! I was talking to the postmaster the other day about everyone losing coins at pcgs PO box, and he passed on my thoughts to his superiors. I told him it had to be inside job going on, he agreed. This is exciting! Good job to OSIRISMMII!

I would be happy to furnish anyone who has had shipments lost to PCGS with the inspecitors direct phone line, He in fact wants to get more info as part of his probe. Please PM me for it.

One caveat: if raw coins are involved in your loss they are probably not traceable. what makes the pr70 case so interesting to them is that the coin never left its slab with the "known" cert number and therefore is very traceable.

By the way, I told the inspector about this site and the message boards and he will be looking in for more info about lost shipments.

    cheers, alan mendelson

    Alan:

I may have missed the full story on who stole the coin? Can you fill us in on the whole story when the authorities are done? Thanks.
