WHO REALLY IS #1

Remember.....there can only be one #1 set in each catagory. Everyone else from #2 to #2000 is in second place. It is like a concours motorcycle or car show. The best of the best show up and only one walks away with the best of show trophy. The loosers are either upset with the results or are estatic that everyone came to the show to admire their car and that owner takes more pride in that. You should take pride in the fact that people admire your collections.........that "you" admire your collection. I have collected for 40 years, know nothing about mercs, but enjoy checking out everyones coins and their grades on the registry sets. I have the #17 1938 proof Jefferson set (Nickel Triumph), only 81% complete but get a kick out of seeing it on the internet. I will never be #1, I admire #16's set and I respect the effort #1 has put into his set. Like "showing" any item in competition the beginners are head strong in competition and the veterans enjoy the good company and thrill of the hunt.........also, after 40 years of collecting, championing the cause of raw coins, buying raw coins, and selling raw coins......I will probably never buy a raw coin again. Face it.......even you pros out there want a PCGS rating. I just saw a modern date PCGS full step Jefferson go for around $3,500 on ebay. Congratulations to the buyer but would he of payed that for a raw coin? Where else but on the registry can you personnly keep track of your own coins. Thanks and I hope I didn't bother anyone.

I was lucky to start buying DCAM Jeffersons several years back but they still seemed expensive then.
We have Frank Corso who posts here. He has the most awesome collection of Jefferson Nickels ever IMO. There are many, many other Jeff collectors who read this board and post too.
One thing we do is help each other find coins for our sets. I can't fill any of your holes today, but I could upgrade a few coin to Cam. Also I am looking for a 1987 in PR 69 DCAM.
To discuss thing privately this board provides something called PMs or Private Messages. You can click on your profile and allow private messages. Try it and send me one if you have a '87.
ricoins is showing an 87 PR69DCAMJefferson in stock..$25.00....Ricks coins are nice.....and he is easy to deal with

Its true we like to show off and have our sets admired by our forum members. We collect for the pure enjoyment of those little pieces of art. Thats what they really are, hunting down the best of the best becomes a task that is addicting.
There are some fantastic sets in the registry that dont even make it to the top five. But just because its not # 1 to us, it is to the collector that put it together. Many of the sets are next to impossible to complete without having a kings ranson to do it.
Just finding some of those coins is a feat in itself. You will find great knowledgeable collectors here, and its no bother, we welcome you...

That Honeycuyt was the one to beat when I started this set and the registry was printed. There was no online registry. The early proof set was from 1950 to '64 back then. I bought the earlier dates and moved into #1 when they added them.
I kept checking his set, never a new coin. I stopped checking because I figured he only wanted DCAM coins. Now he has bought most of the early ones, only two more to go and they are not that hard in 67. He ties or beats me in every single slot. He has the only PR 70 DCAM of the era. I better hurry up and get my set Pedigreed!
Welcome!! I also have some Jeffersons that can upgrade you. If interested PM me and then I will check my duplicates.

ANACS slabs many different varieites, RPMs etc. In my opinion, ANACS coins typically grade 1 to 1.5 grades lower than PCGS coins.
If you are interested in Jefferson varieties get the 4th edition of "The Cherrypickers Guide" by Fivas and Stanton. This book has great pictures, price and rarity information.
If you are interested in RPMs get "The Jefferson Nickel RPM Book" by Wiles. Some RPMs are very obvious to the naked eye others are not. Typically the obvious ones are more highly sought after.
