Question about USPS insurance

Like most of us I buy insurance at the post office for higher dollar items. I have only had one problem and that was as a buyer. I had to produce the invoice of the cards I bought and got my money back.

But the package I just sent was an auction consignment.

No bill since nothing was bought/sold. I accumulated the cards over many years and have no proof of purchase.

What happens if the post office destroys or misplaces my package? I have the list of the cards that are in the box.

I hope nothing happens but what if. How do I prove anything?

    You could get a dealer to write an appraisal of what you sent.

    Yes, you do need to provide some evidence of value when filing an insurance claim and I'm pretty sure an appraisal from a reputable third party would suffice. Also, any legit auction house should have an insurance policy that covers both incoming and outgoing shipments.

    The post office just lost a $200 package of mine. I submitted a invoice for the sale. I got some "note pages" from work (the ones the secetary uses, says "Write it" on top). I just listed the persons name and address, and items sent with amount paid (or retail amount).

    I received my check in full + postage and insurance cost in about 2 weeks.

    PS- No, I did not steal the Notes from work, they put them out for the employees to take. The office no longer uses them.
