Barber Half Set on Registry

Many of you may know that we recently had our complete mint state set of Barber Half Dollars sent in for re-grading using PCGS Secure Plus. We received a number of pluses (YEA!) and took the opportunity to have the whole set imaged while undergoing re-grading and now the Dr. and Mrs. Peter Shireman set has all images available and the text for the Owner's Comments has been greatly edited and expanded. Have a look and let me know what you like and don't like as I have been working a lot on it. Thanks.

Sorry for my inability to link to my set. I appreciate the comments.

Our set is the second one listed under All Time finest. The 1905 that is so incredible is in Dr. and Mrs Duckor's retired set and I agree completely about that being an amazing set.

Take a look at the Dr. and Mrs Peter Shireman set, thanks.

I just absolutely love the 1904-S, both as an issue and your particular coin in the incredible grade of MS67, ex: Peake 1955, Norweb 1988. Wow, it doesn't get much better than that. Congratulations on everything it took/is taking to assemble this amazing collection. Thanks for sharing too! Best Regards, George

Thanks for the kind comments. Building the set has been a most enjoyable journey.

I see the set description fields as a chance to "write my book" on Barber Halves in a nicely illustrated and well maintained site. I plan to do some additional research and editing of the registry set when I get time.

Nice to see that your set contains a old friend- the 1907 Philadelphia Barber Half.

    Peter,

Thanks for the PM - and I truly
enjoyed the write up on the 07-P
as I was there witnessing the whole
bidding procedure. The Mrs. did a cut
bid on that coin, didn't she ?

Great images - and looking forward
to examine each and every one soon.

    Mike,

You are right about my wife doing the cut-bid at her first coin auction. I have now added that detail to the story in the Owner's Comments for the 1907-P. Surprisingly that is the longest entry for any of the coins in the set.

    Peter,

Thank you so much for sharing the stories of each of these wonderful examples. Your wife is a real trooper too. Seeing her do that cut bid in Boston was a memory I will never forget. She did catch on quick!

    Glenn,

Mrs. Shireman was only trying to save Peter a few Dollars !! image
That was a great evening - even though I didn't bid on any of the
    Duckor Halves.

Great set of coins - and I was just glad to have added a few of
the Friend coins back in Jan. 2009. All but one of those is about
to hit the block next week... sorry to say.

    See you all in Chicago.

Still continue to edit and modify my listings in the set. Finding coins to improve the set is becoming almost impossible.

That was a very enjoyable read. The stories of acquisition and provenance are well done. Kudos to a great collection!
