PKs again. Solo was a little hobbled right before the equalizer. Hopefully she shows up big like she did against Brazil.

HAHA ... me toooooo! I am NOT a soccer fan but this game is great and I don't even know what's going on half the time. I THINK it's going to penalty kicks now. Did I say that correctly? LOL

  • I hope the men's game learned a lesson of how this sport is supposed to be played.

Very well done by both countries, and as bad as we feel about losing, you have to feel good for Japan, who had a tidal wave hit
them today and still came out on top. How fitting that they won after being totally outplayed the entire game. A country that never quits.

Hate to say this, and I don't know squat about soccer, but our team seemed to go into sort of a "prevent defense" like seen in the NFL, and I've seen it too many times in NFL games when the prevent defense prevents victory.

Japan put their all offense, no defense, rabbits out there, and the USA team still stayed with that stupid defense, when the USA team could of and should have stayed on the attack, scored another goal and put the game away. Using that type of defense with just a one goal lead was simply bad coaching in my opinion.

Oh well...that's just my two yen...and in any event...congrats to the Japan team, and after the recent horrific events that Japan has suffered with the tsunami and nuclear melt down...it was nice to see them have something to celebrate about.
  • Man what a tough loss. That mistake in front of our goal which allowed Japan to score their first goal image *sigh* It is nice for Japan, and they played very well and with sportsmanship throughout so I feel happy for them but still, I though we had this. When Abby got the 2nd goal, I thought it was in the bag. We just couldn't close it outimage
  • if they played topless it would have been worth it.

Can you imagine game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals being decided by a shootout?

I was rooting for the US because I'm an American but part of me doesn't mind when another country wins at a sport that only 2-3 countries care about. I'd be willing to be the US Soccer federation puts more money into the Women's game than any other in the world. Japan dodged a bunch of bullets early but give them credit for resiliency.

I agree, having penalty kicks is like paying a toothless carny $5 to try and knock over three milk bottles. The teams play to hard to have a one on one shootout. It should have been sudden death in the 30 minute extra play, overtime or whatever they called it. If know one scored, take a 5 minute break and do it again.

Congratulations to both teams on a great game. Though I was hoping for an US victory, it's good to see Japan win and bring a bright spot to its' devastated country. image

  • I agree the shootout process is terrible. They should have regular overtime for whatever 30 minutes, then a second overtime for 15 minutes, and finally sudden death. First team to score wins!!!

Having it end the way it did doesn't feel like a Champion. The win though couldn't have gone to a more needing country right now. I couldn't imagine having a large portion of our food supply off limits. That's what they are going through right now.

I think I enjoy Women's soccer more than any other female sport other than golf. It's got me interested now, and the Olympics are coming! I'm sure the US will qualify.

I wonder if the World Cup was played 68 years ago (since it's every 4 years)... if people in Japan would be sitting back saying I'm glad the U.S. won after the terrible tragedy they endured back in December of 1941, thanks to us no less!

Sucks the U.S. ladies loss... enuf said.
