Listing mistake....question

Hi all

I re-listed an item and reduced the price on it but instead of pricing it at $99, I got it confused with another card and listed it at $49. Needless to say it was immediately purchased. I tried to explain my mistake, but the buyer wont have any of it. Am I stuck? Thanks for all responses...BTW, my feedback is 100% and many of you guys have bought from me and sold to me....thanks again for all responses.

You can either deliver the item, or not and risk a negative feedback. Don't think there are really any other options.

    1. cancel the transaction and refund the buyers money and take a Neg & 1 star across the board.
    2. send the card to the buyer and take the loss.
    3. send the the buyer an empty box. (just kidding)

so yes you are stuck with these 3 options.

1.not really, you can cancel the transaction and say the item is no longer for sale. still gets a Neg though.
    2. wait 4 days and file a NPB claim and hope the buyer doesn't pay, then just cancel the whole deal. then the buyer can't leave feedback
    3. hopefully the buyer will realize it was a honest mistake and agree to cancel the deal then you could offer the card to him for a discounted rate like 10% or 20% off and everyone is happy.

I did exactly as you suggested, Diamondman....I offered it at $79...lowest price in years, but they are playing hardball...I guess I will just have to eat the neg.

Delivering the card does not guarantee that the sharpshooter
will not NEG you. He is already pist at you.

    ............

How long does it take you to make $50 on EvilBAY?

How much do you care about a NEG that can be explained in
    a FB response?

    .........

One NEG is not very likely to hurt you.

You can bury a NEG super FAST by buying a bunch of cheap stuff.

EvilBAY cannot "make" you sell the item. They will likely give you
a "policy violation" strike, but you might be able to get it removed.

    ..................

If you find any discrepancies in the guy's contact info, you can file
an "unwelcome bidder" or "false contact info" claim with EBAY. That
could get you off the hook.

Look at the guy's FB/buying/selling history at:

    toolhaus.org

    and

    goofbay.com

    For clarity:

The buyer does not have to pay to preserve his right to
leave a NEG. He only has to reply "appropriately" to the
NPB filing; and, he prolly would.

Thanks Storm...you are always the voice of clarity and reason....I'm not gonna sell the card at a price that is obviously a mistake....I have apologized and told them to "do what they have to do..."....if anyone wants to know who it is...it is oldendolls....and yes I have blocked them. Thanks again to everyone.

sorry this happened. it is a shame that their are buyers like this, that won't accept that mistakes happen. I would just add him to your BBL. Hopefully the buyer won't leave any feedback at all.

LOL...now it gets better...apparently I sold them a Dorsett PSA-9 NQ on 7/10. They (just now) say that I "misrepresented" the card because they think they see a small mark of some sort on the back of the card and since I didnt do a back scan they want to return it, even though all my auctions clearly state "no returns on 3rd party graded cards". I told them I would take the return initially, but then they want me to eat the return shipping as well. I said I listed a PSA-9 and you bought a PSA-9, how could I misrepresent it??? After the new fiasco (again, my fault on the listing)...I am done and told them I wil not take the return on Dorsett and I will not ship the mispriced card either....gosh, selling on Ebay as getting to be a pain...

You may want to block them from bidding if you haven't done already.
  • wallst32wallst32 Posts: 513 ✭✭
If the buyer wants to return the Dorsett through ebay/PayPal policy they are on the hook for the return shipping and you can tell them that.

Now as far as trying to give this guy a bad rap and suggesting people block his ID, just remember YOUR mistake caused all this mess.

I have purchased from sellers before who refunded me and sent an email stating it was listed in error..
I just moved on.. but am way more easy going then 99% of buyers out there.. if $50 is a lot of dough to you..
take the neg and move on..
  • CSUrunandstunCSUrunandstun Posts: 573 ✭✭✭
They just sent the $49.00 and denied my Ebay "please cancel transaction" request ...The $50 is really not that big of a deal, but now I'm kinda aggravated because they wouldnt even accept a discounted price. Should I just send the card knowing that at this point they are probably going to neg me anyway?

    True, but irrelevant.

The guy is a sharpshooter who views EBAY as "gotcha" video game.
There are a ZILLION just like him in the collectibles world; and, I am
    one of 'em.

When I play the game, I hope for weaklings and suckers that will rollover
for me. Better yet, I want vics that are willing to cast LISTING MISTAKES
as "moral issues." When I cannot get what I want from my target, I just
move on. Because I am not a demented and maladjusted dingbat, I would
NEVER leave a NEG for somebody who stood up to my game; I laugh and
    and wait for easier prey.

I BBL folks for FAR less than being mean-spirited sharpshooters.

Wondering why there is any issue here. Refund/Cancel the transaction, block the bidder and move on. If they want to return the other card make them go through the Paypal process to do it. Stop trying to make it right, stop emailing/responding to them and just move on.

Do listing mistakes of this variety really happen that often? I never thought of somebody doing this as a business.

I dunno if folks do it as a biznez, but it is certainly in the arsenal
    of MANY folks.

Such listing mistakes - and other types - are extremely common.

Absolutely happens all of the time. I bought a 1981 Donruss set in sheets and a binder for a .01 BIN with Free Shipping last year. How could I not pass that up? Well, obviously it was a listing error, but I paid my penny and I expected my cards. And I got them. And I left positive feedback.

personally, I'd eat the $50 and chalk it up as one of those "damnit" lessons. That way you don't jeopardize the other sale, too. If you stick to your guns, you'll lose the PP dispute on the PSA 9 as well.

“Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate.”

The OP did not fear to negotiate. Those negotiations failed.

Now, the OP should rollover for an extortionist?

    I don't think so.

    ...................................

The sharpshooter's mixing of the PSA9 "issue" with the pricing-mistake issue
tells me ALL I need to know about the nasty little child.

50/50 he may be bluffing about the PSA9; just trying to spook the OP. He is
prolly NOT bluffing, IMV, but I would NEVER let the fear of NEGs/DSRs decide
how I dealt with a SCUMBAG.

EVERY person has different criteria/resources that dictate how they deal with
the TRASH on EBAY. I am not encouraging the OP to commit suicide; just
saying what I would and would not do.

I agree with Storm and fergie. Don't send them the card and make them return the PSA graded card and pay for return shipping as paypal requires the buyer to do when returning an item anyway. Do not communicate with them anymore. Just block them and move on..
