You mean kinda like a juror intentionally finding Casey Anthony NOT guilty to create a huge controversy and then sell their juror stories?

Didn't Donnie Moore kills himself for something less significant, but still cost the Angels a chance to go to the World Series?

Pro athletes are just way to chummy. Do you think Gibson or Drysdale would do the same?

Mike Bacsik has been accused of this. Especially since he said he was going to challenge Bonds with fastballs.

Not sure if this fits but it is said Denny McLain purposely served up Mantle's 535th HR.

I'd say the answer is yes, with all the pitchers out there someone might be tempted.

    Good for you.

The next time he faced Gibson, Gibby would have put a fastball in his ear.
"Gibson showed no mercy, even to players he liked. Gibson's closest friend on the Cardinals was first baseman Bill White, who was later traded to the Philadelphia Phillies. The first time White batted against Gibson as a Phillie, Gibson hit him on the arm with a fastball."
"You know we just don't recognize the most significant moments of our lives while they're happening. Back then I thought, well, there'll be other days. I didn't realize that that was the only day."

I wouldn't consider giving up a 9th inning home run in Game 5 of the ALCS - to blow your team's chance to go to the World Series - "less significant" than giving up a solo homer in the 3rd inning of a regular season game in July.

And Ralph Branca, Ralph Terry, Mickey Owen, Bill Buckner and others never intentionally did what they did, but after the stone was cast, if there were a few bucks to be made, so be it.

Wasn't there a quote that went along with that, that said something like, "If a guy paid for 534 drinks in the same bar, he's entitled to a free one."??

I don't think you can purposely serve up a home run. Mantle still has to hit it over the fence in fair territory. Look at Rickie Weeks swinging and missing at his first 2 in the HR derby Monday night where you can say for certain the pitcher is purposely serving up home runs.
