When this NFL lockout is over I am buying some football cards for my personal collection!!!

Although I have a few random nothing worth noting cards here and there...I've never collected football cards(no idea why). Last year I thought about it for a while, but then nothing happened and my interest was shifted back to Baseball, BKB and Hockey. BUT.... if/when week 1 of the NFL season starts and I see that robotic football dude on Fox...I know the interest is going to come back and I am going to begin a football collection. For those who know me, you know I don't put together sets, so I will be seeking those HOF and star/semi star player cards in mid grades that wont break the bank. 70s and early to mid 80s cards are very appealing to me and probably where I will start my journey. To me it's more about players I watched and grew up with more than someone I have only heard of or read about. I'd love to hear from other collector's who "branched out" and what your experiences were.

First of all...good luck with the collection if you do decide to go down that road.

I at one time collected ONLY baseball. I then thought, being Canadian, I should start a hockey card collection. Well I did...and now I have since sold off all of my Baseball cards...every last one...to buy hockey. I have even started to sell off Blu-ray movies (which I have many for sale for you blu-ray lovers *shameless plug image* , old comic books, new comic books and anything else I can to buy hockey. I have become a little crazy about it.

Summer time is actually the best time to buy football cards

  • Issue with FB is that they are more condition sensitive then baseball... Ex: Tough to get centered Marinos and Elway Rookies.. Broadway Joe is hard due to size of card. Franco Harris Rookie has a tilt.. Bradshaw rookie has red boarders.. I think most of the Topps issues from the 60's are the "B" stock they didn't use for baseball...
