Question about cut autographs...

What is everyone's opinion on this? Hypothetically, lets say you have a rare cut signature, but in the top left of the cut you can see bottom end of another's person's signature. The bottom part of the cursive y in the other signature is readily viewable and actually extends down far enough to barely touch a part of your rare signature (but doesn't overlap it). The good thing, the signatures are in a graphite pencil. Do you try to erase that cursive y in the top left or are potential damages not worth the risk?

Thanks,
Matt

For me, one of the biggest variables would be; is the signature you want to erase heavy handed? Are you still going to see a fade and indentation after you erase? If no, I would probably erase the other.

Lets say after erasing it, you do still see an indention, does that decrease the value at all of your rare cut?

  • If it's rare, don't take the risk of damage. The Signature will be worth more with the over lap, than with out part of the "Rare Signature".

Don't damage the Sig. any worse. The damage it already has is enough. What is worth more a "Rare" baseball card with 1 ruined corner or 2?

    That's just my opinion.

Thanks for your replies. I've also did some research on erasers and it said ArtGum is the best because it will not damage the top layer of papyrus.

your piece is already chopped (cut), you cant screw it up any more!

erase the stuff you dont want, just like you/they chopped away the stuff they didnt want.
  • I just replace the cuts I don't like with ones I do, but I realize everybody ain't got it like me...
