What is the lowest case run for a Topps product?

I believe 93 Finest baseball was 4,000 cases. I know there were low numbers of complete sets like Tiffany but I'm talking wax/foil box cases.

  • I believe 1991 Tiffany Navy (Topps) had a lower print run, it is the rarest of the tiffany's

1988 topps, you can hardly find an unopened pack much less a box. The only other one that is close is probably 1987 topps. I hope this helps.

    Just kidding of course.

The 1989 Topps Mini UK baseball wax cases/boxes are very tough to find and the population report lists less than 20 of each card graded. So I am guessing that product had a pretty low case run.

For comparison, I have calculated the following production numbers from wrapper odds. I would like to add to this if any one has any modern wrappers with pack odds lying around. All numbers are spread between retail and hobby.

    2010 Topps Football
    10,000 cases (retail and hobby)
about 75,000 sets distributed through packs

    2008 Topps Mayo Football
    2200 cases (retail and hobby)
    about 10,000 sets

    2010 Topps Chicle Baseball
    2500 cases (retail and hobby)
    about 12,500 sets

Also, there were reportedly only 2000 wax cases of their 1992-93 Bowman hockey cards produced. And I believe their 1992 Stadium high number football wax cases had even less than that.
  • Thanks guysimage The reason I asked is the new release of Topps Marquee is rumored to be a print run of 1200 cases. That seems very limited and I wonder how Topps can make any money on such a small print run.

I've followed the 1992 Topps Stadium Club High Numbers product since its release, and I remember reading back in the day there was a 300 case print run. We have a sealed case up on the website Steve just acquired a couple months ago. When you think of all the wax he and I have seen over the course of our careers, bear in mind this is the first time either of us have ever seen a sealed case! If anyone has an empty display case, I'd love to have one for my personal collection.

And don't be mistaken; Topps doesn't do anything that won't turn a profit. They will find a way for Marquee to be profitable, and you can probably guess how. They would rather cancel a release than lose money on it. Any venture they have participated in the past for the promotion value or goodwill has been eliminated a long time ago. Think of the absence of a Topps corporate booth at the National over the past several years that was replaced by the eTopps volunteers. Topps used to also promote the Super Bowl Card Show, the Pro Bowl Card Show, and the Hall of Fame Induction Weekend Card Show. If all companies followed Panini's lead when it comes to supporting the hobby, we'd have a much healthier collector base.
