I compared it to the couple of coiled hair proofs I've got and it looks legit!

Technically, it's a pattern and not a coin. It was never approved or released into circulation.

There are lots of patterns with very interesting designs that never made it to production.

Every bid is by a "private bidder"? None of the bidders, how many there may be, do not seem to be concerned that the PCGS holder is not photographed. It looks more like a drawing than a photo anyway.

You gotta love the ballsyness of someone that things they are going to be able to sell a million dollar coin on ebay that they dont own. First this auction will never see the end of its run, and if somehow it did, paypal would never release the funds. At least he aims high with his scams!

Well since it's a pattern I guess that's why I never heard of it. Evil seller is evil!

It is one of those rare patterns that is REQUIRED in the "complete US coin type set" though, so it's sort of a "real coin" image

That happens when a seller uses the 'private auction' feature.

Why does ebay still allow private auctions? All buyer identities are obscured anyhow.

Ebay's PR dept should be contacted about this upcoming record price for a coin on their website. Of course it would prove very embarasssing for eBay if
there is actually no coin for sale, and eBay has failed to implement policies which prevent these types of listings.

<< <i>Here's where the seller found the pix >>

Funny that the seller used a snippet from the same page as his description, which was taken directly from the Superior catalogue.

I wonder if he could provide me with a current slab photo, perhaps next to today's paper?

The cert number for this coin is 22106270, and it is the ex. Trompter collection coin listed on coinfacts. Check the cert, and it comes up as PR66CA. Funny the seller didn't mention that it's a CAMEO! image Price guide has this coin at $800K! I guess she'll be taking a bath! image

In 1992 that coin graded PR65CA at PCGS, and sold for $198K, in 1992!

I hope someone here wins it so we can hear how she'd like payment. $100's okay?

I reported it but ebay has not been speedy about shutting down auctions ending soon.

Hi jacked account would definitely be a possibly. He would probably have gotten away with it if he was selling a more modestly priced coin. Super expensive coins usually receive too much scrutiny to make such a con successful.
