Marti Hervera + Soler & Llach wins.

Just a couple of inexpensive pick-ups from the recent Hervera sale:

1821 Zacatecas 8 Reales. Neat error - superscript "s" on the reverse was punched into the die after 8 instead of Z (Normal legend would read Zs 8R, not Z8sR).

1810 Mexico 8 Reales. I liked the die clash.

Won one in Aureo sale, as well.

Very nice ! How many 8's do you have in your collection?

It's a small collection, Z. Only about 50 pieces or so.

Do you have a specific theme (country, mint, bust) or simply anything that meets the quality threshold?

I've narrowed it down to portrait series Mexico (if you can call this narrowing it down). I want to put together at least a year-mintmark set for War of Independence issues from major Royalist and Insurgent mints. Those W4I issues is what get me started in numismatics and I want to specialize in that area going forward.
  • I could swear I've seen you post more than "50 pieces or so" to this forum alone, for which I am grateful. You obviously have a very nice collection going.

I've probably posted well over a hunred on the forums over the last 5+ years. Most were either in my posession at the time, or just curious examples being offered by someone else. 90% of my collection can be seen by clicking on the link in my signature.

Just back from Summer FUN (picked up an 1803 Potosi 8 Reales in CH AU) and checked the final bids. Still awaiting confirmation through email, it appears that I won lots 450 and 451 Marti Hervera. 1768 and 1770 Potosi 2 Reales, both the rare variety with no point above the PTS monogram. It's too bad that their site nor sixbid show you when you've won image
Lurker since '02. Got the seven year itch!

Whoa, just saw the number of views myself. I thought I was still around 9000 like last year. Self-promotion seems to work image

Kind of deceptive, if you ask me. Paul Karon told me to be careful when bidding at Soler y Llach auctions. Are you going to send it back or keep it?

I agree. I like the coin as imaged in the auction and your second set of pictures but far too many scuffs and scratches in your first images.

    This one was from Aureo.

I'm yet to receive Soler y Llach coins and my experience with them has been positive in the past.

Glad to hear that! Now, to find out if they are going to actually award those two lots to me.image

Grats! They are sneaky - I didn't receive any confirmation or invoices, but my credit card was charged.

Soler & Llach wins came in. Very happy with both coins.

Zacatecas piece will require closer inspection. Even though it's a variety documented by Calbeto, something's not sitting quite right with me.

Here's the image of the 1810. Really digging the die clash. Zacatecas pics will follow shortly.

Here's the Zacatecas piece. What's raising flags for me are the odd softness on the reverse and the wear on the portrait that gives almost a plated look.
