Danbury Mint Question

I have a friend who has a team set produced by the Danbury Mint for the 2004 World Series Champion Red Sox. These are 22kt gold embossed cards sent two at a time for $9.95 a piece, 36 cards in all and binder and all that.

They want to sell it and want to know what they should figure to get. I've searched ebay and Google and really can't find anything except finding them is nearly impossible and no one wants to pay $325 for the last set listed on ebay. They weren't even listed in the 2007 copy of the Standard Catalog I have. The 1996 issued cards of all time greats aren't booking all that high either.

Were these cards overproduced? Why do they seem to be ignored? These aren't cards that I would buy but, there must be some interest by someone, or is this really a case of trying to give the fan who has everything something they don't really want.

  • Bumpity bump. Anyone?

    Bueller? Bueller?

    (Really, these aren't my cards.)
  • When I do shows I put my 22k/24k embossed cards in my $1 box for the most part (Ruth/Jeter/couple super stars) being the exceptions.... And they don't even move at $1

There have been a couple singles that sold for a couple bucks a piece. I'd say that set might sell for about $50-$75, to the right buyer. The Danbury Mint already made the profit that was to be had for this set.

The are some WWF wrestling one's that go for $1 to $2 on average. I am not certain if this is the best example but I would suspect a good number bring very little like these do.

  • Thanks for the replies. Seems like they were premium priced cards for a market that wasn't there. My friends will be a bit disappointed.
