Manley substance abuse auction

Eagerly awaiting the hammer on this auction.

I'd be in there bidding but I just bought one that is a lock 9/possible 10.

Surprised to see 50+ bids on day 1 but I've had nothing but good experiences with this seller so I'm not as suspicious as I'd normally be about the activity.

Suspicious? Why would anyone think that? It appears as though one bidder sat and placed 53 consecutive bids over a 9 minute period while being outbid by one of the previous bidders. I'm sure DPeck will say that bidding will be hot and heavy and the suitors are just jockeying for position, but this is another example of why SNIPES are best for potential buyers.

so, let's have a show of torches.

will the hammer price be higher or lower than the amount of money Dexter spent on crack in an average day?

What is the last selling price on a card similar to this one?

The card is considered one of the toughest "mainstream" variations in the set. Makes the "belt" card look like a piece of cake.

I just found the belt card on EBAY and it sold for $51. Pretty funny looking card for sure!

The market was flooded with the Marion Belt variation this year so the price dipped significantly down to the $40-80 range. I myself pulled two from packs and I think I've sold three.

The Manley shows up far less frequently (about once a year on Ebay) and the condition usually isn't that appealing. I've passed on a couple that seemed to go at a discount ($450-650) due to condition. For the longest time, people seemed to believe this was an $800 card regardless of condition. This particular one is in really good shape so it should reset the market back up near $800 at least, but I wouldn't expect the shabby looking ones to command that price anymore.

No, I'm not a shill. Just a major enthusiast for the set. I'm also fascinated whenever one of those "let's watch the action on this high demand card auction" threads comes up, so I thought I'd share.

Also working against this card is the fact that 75% of the hobby is hoarding cash right now getting ready for the National in Chicago.

I'm nowhere near an expert on football cards, so I found this article pretty interesting; lists all the variations for 1990 Pro Set - what a mess that set is! Manley alone has four variations (plus the common base card).

I'm guessing he meant Chicago, in which case he'd be talking about the National.
