Wow. Engelhard bar sells for $192/oz on Ebay

7 ounce Engelhard bars are scarce but this one surprised me by selling for $1,345 tonight on ebay. That is double what I expected it would bring.

Actually, two people wanted it pretty bad but only one got buried.

The buyer still needs to pay, and hopefully (for the sellers sake) he won't get cold feet and renege on the auction.
I just had it happen to me tied up almost 2000 worth of items for 10 days. No communication. Very annoying b

Excellent point! I guess it's possible two bidders placed nuclear bids and now the winner is having second thoughts.

I was bidding on this one. The two bidders who fought it out at the end stepped up when the bar was already bid up beyond $700.
The two final contestants were entering bids in the last thirty seconds. It had the feel of a bidding war and not just nuclear snipe bids timed for the last 3 seconds.
IMO if the high bidder gets cold feet that the underbidder will snap up this bar.
With four bidders after this bar over $700 I think it is safe to say that the market for these rare bars is at least $100 an ounce. $1345 realized may bring more out of hiding but I believe this Engelhard 7 oz is the only bar of its type offered on Ebay during 2011. Now that's rare.
