How do they do it and why?

I am talking about the guys on eBay that sell a brand new penny (errr cent) for 2 cents with FREE shipping. What is the point of them
doing this? Is there some type of hidden trick, or are they just
trying to get your information or what? i cant see why anyone would
bid and I cant see the point of losing Paypal fees, ebay and shipping fees. So, what is up? Oh yeah, and what is up with the guy that
sells "unsearched" rolls of cents with a dime at one end?

no idea about the dime guy.

the penny sellers are just building feedback.

As stated above...it's buying feedback so they can fleece buyers on higher priced items and have a lot of feedback so folks feel safe image

Wouldn't it be a lot easier to fleece buyers if you sold sheep on eBay?image

That could back fire. So far, my only Neg was on a 1.98 sale from
a guy with only 26 feedbacks that has "negged" about 3 of deals already.

When you look at someone's feedback, it says how much an item sold for, so a ton of 2 cent sales would be kind of weird.

Seems like a quicker way to build feedback would be just buy a bunch of those cheap deals...almost guarenteed instant feedback, ive noticed that. The cheaper or more commen the item the better the chance of quick feedback.

Feedback as a buyer doesn't accrue to the Detailed Seller Ratings. If the number of those ratings
is low, people don't really care that you've bought a ton of stuff.

Do you think people look beyond a 100% feedback with a fair number in the average transaction ? I sometimes wish i had but don't do it nearly often enough , especially if its 100% feedback with minutes to go.A lot of times the only time ill investigate feedback is if its less than 100%.

Sellers with low feedback have the funds paid into PayPal held until feedback is tendered or a certain number of days pass on their auctions.
Not allowed to dump and run on the scams.

I don't know if it's still happening, but at least 6-7 years ago, there were the rings of folks going around and boosting each other's feedback scores. They would do it with the low items like pennies and such. Didn't matter what got sent or not, it was the lowest they could do in getting hit with fees and building feedback. Boost enough by selling and then salt in the higher end items.

If you have 100%, then, seriously, how many folks look past that? Of those that do, once you have the low money items off the first page, then how many look past that?

The majority of people on these forums are in the major minority of ebayers (in a good way, as we are usually better informed and more apt to be wary of sellers).

The key to the scam is that after 90 days you can't see what the item was . When you look at the feedback a year later you just see a positive not the 1 cent item. They may be in for a surprise soon as ebay is starting to keep permanent records of purchases now . Lately I have seen some peoples feedback where you can see the item description going back older than 90 days. It doesn't work for everyone so maybe it wasn't rolled out all at once.
