Heritage question (2003)

I know there are quite a few Heritage experts here. What are the odds of pulling the Rainbow parallel's in the '03 set? Are they all autographed? I can't seem to find good info on how rare these are. On the spectrum of rare inserts in the '03 set, where does Rainbow fit in vs. the other inserts/parallels? Thx for any guidance.

easy now, you are confusing topps heritage with bowman heritage...or are you?

LOL Bowman heritage really never caught on here, usually " heritage" is short for topps heritage.

alas, someone should be along soon to answer your question!

Good point. I was actually referring to '03 Bowman Heritage on this one.

I'm pretty sure the '03 Bowman set was patterned after the 1956 "set that never was". I think it was planned, but then Topps got the exclusive right to do cards and it was scrapped. Something like that. I do know it was the only Bowman Heritage set I didn't complete. I don't think I even did a Dodger set.

Ah yes, found an article on topps-heritage.com:

<< <i>The 2003 Bowman Heritage set contains 280 cards in it's base set (not including inserts or bonus cards). I have read that it was designed to look similar how Bowman originally planned it's 1956 baseball set to look. Bowman never ended up releasing a 1956 set, but supposedly, the design was in a long lost folder titled 1956 Baseball Card Preference Guide Study and was found by Keith Olbermann. Topps then decided it wanted to release it's 2003 Bowman Heritage set with the same design.

I'm not sure about that story, but I know the cards look almost exactly like the 1958 Hires Root Beer set.

Cards #171-180 can be found in 3 variations for each card, one being a "Double Image" where the card has two photos of the player on the front, side by side. The other is a "Knothole" variation, where the fence on front has a knothole visible. And of course there is the regular base card with no knothole.

The key rookie cards in this set are Robinson (Robby) Cano and Brandon Wood. Also included in 2003 Bowman Heritage were a "Facsimile Signature" parallel set, a "Rainbow" parallel set, and a "Gold Rainbow" parallel set. In hobby issued boxes, 8 different cards can be found as "Box Toppers".

Other insert cards for 2003 Bowman Heritage are:

A 55 card set of "Diamond Cuts Relics" featuring stars from 2003 along with an actual piece of GAME USED equipment on the card. The set can also be found in two different parallel variations, called "Red" or "Gold" Diamond Cut Relics. The "Gold Diamond Cut Relics" are the most scarce of the three.

Autographs that can be found in 2003 Bowman Heritage are cards of Delmon Young and Keith Olbermann, as well as a 12-card "Signs of Greatness" autographed card set featuring some of the most promising MLB rookies of 2003. The "Signs of Greatness" cards come in either blue or red ink for each player, with the red ink being the toughest to find. >>

    And from baseballcards.wikia.com:

<< <i>2003 Bowman Heritage was a baseball card set released by Topps. This is the third Bowman Heritage set. This is the only of the sets that does not have any short prints. 2003 Bowman Heritage was also the first Bowman Heritage set to include a series of [1/1] parallels.

The full parallel set of the 2003 Bowman Heritage set is a black bordered Facsimile Signature set. The cards were printed on thicker card stock – the same size as the Diamond Cuts Relic cards. The cards were seeded 1 per pack if the pack did not have a bat or jersey relic card. Approximately 1300 of each card were printed.

A special partial parallel set of the knothole rookie cards were also seeded 1 per pack. The card fronts feature a glossy sheen that refract light. There were approximately 4200 of each Rainbow card produced.

An extremely rare version of the Rainbow parallels was also produced. The Gold Rainbow parallels were seeded at 1:4178 packs. There was 1 serial numbered set produced, it was the only parallel set that was serial numbered.

Also included in box was a Box Topper card that was basically a reprint of one of the knothole rookie cards in the set. There were 8 cards and approximately 2200 copies of each card. >>

Bowman Heritage never made sense, right? The first one ('01) was correct - 1948 but then the years jump all over the place and I don't think they did a 52 or 53 Heritage set. Seems pretty odd considering Topps Heritage has been sequential since '52 ('01).

If it helps your answer at all, when I did '06 Bowman Heritage the Rainbow refractors were one per pack.

Very helpful guys, thx. If the Rainbow parallels are unnumbered, but exist in quantities that are around 4200 each, that explains why the prices are what they are. The key RCs from this set in the Rainbow parallels seemed really cheap compared to the 03 Topps Chrome and 03 Bowman Chrome refractors.

Baseballcardpedia.com claims that there is 1 "Gold Rainbow" parallel of each card. I have never seen one and there are none currently on Ebay. If anyone has 1 of these, pls post a pic. Wonder what the Robbie Cano fan club would pay for that 1/1 RC..
