Slightly OT: The Old English D - I'm So Disappointed

I just learned recently that the old English D on the Tigers cap is different than the old English D on the Tigers uniform. In fact, they aren't even that close:

I don't know what I'm more disappointed in, the fact that they are actually different or the fact that I didn't know they were different. I can hardly watch a home game anymore without being annoyed. The one on the jersey is just dumb looking.

Thanks for listening, as you were.

wow. it has been this way for a few lifetimes!!! Chalk it up to low watchability of the team. Our boys can put a thrill on early, then fizzle away like Fidrych's career.....
  • Best uni's in baseball....but I agree...the jersey "D" looks weak. And...ummm....I'm right with you - I never knew there was a difference. Hard to believe since I watch nearly every game.

Nothing cooler than an old english D hat.....

I learned this on a Fox Sports Detroit special following a Tigers game a few weeks ago. They talked to both Al Kaline and Willie Horton, and neither of them had a clue. Other than RoarIn84, only one other Tiger fan that I have spoken to knew they were different. So I don't feel too bad!

Whereabouts you from KIW? I saw your picture with the misses at Greenfield Village.

First off, I'll admit that I never noticed the difference.

However, I think it looks fine the way it is. In my opinion, the "D" on the jersey (and my avatar) is a good combination of the classic baseball lettering and a more modern style. I'm a fan of the modern looking retro designs of both the current Tigers Home and Away jerseys.
