Grading topps 1964 and 1971 coins

can anyone point me to a place i can read about this?--i have around 40 i'm considering parting with and wondered if grading them would be beneficial--i cant find anything on grading standards for these--personally i've divided them into 3 groups 1.. very rusty on front rim with rust spots and scratches on the pack 2...rust spots on front and spotty on back upon closer inspection
3...very little rust and nice looking back i've looked at about every one i can find on net thats graded but its hard to actually see how much rust is involved due to lighting, shadows, etc
thanks

Topps Coins are really difficult to get a good picture scan ! If you check out the 1971 Topps Coin Set Registry ........ the #12 set GoofBall6295 has scans of all his coins ...................should give you some idea of the grades ! To get NM-MT 8 and higher grades , the coins really have to look brand new ...........no rust front or back , no scratches or dents front or back and nick free rims ! Welcome to the boards and good luck with your submissions if you send anything in ! Hopefully some experts will chime in there two cents worth , as I am not a expert on these ! I've always liked this oddball set , and hope to maybe do the 1964 set someday !

thank you Robby--now a small bump for the night crowd--
  • There are many variables to look at with these coins: 1. Rim wear... a psa 9 will have virtually none.... a psa 8 might have a speck or two.... 2. Centering of picture.... a psa 9 is centered nicely while an 8 will be OC somewhat.... 3. Picture quality..... a psa 9 will have a clear/clean picture while an 8 might have a line/flaw on it 4. Back of the coin....... most 9's will have pretty clean backs.. a print line small flaw will keep a coin a 9 if the front is clean............ a psa 8 will have some paint loss or wear 5. Which grader grades them... coin grading is very subjective and on any given day a coin could be a grade or two higher or lower depending on which grader is evaluating them...
    Hope this helps!
