Neil ... good luck with the sale. When I was a kid I do remember one or two of the candy/stationery stores in my neighborhood selling cards this way. They actually had the machine OUTSIDE the store on the sidewalk and NOT chained to anything! Imagine doing that today? The machine would be gone in one day.

These machines did not vend wax packs. You would put in your nickel and out would come your 5 cards. The cards were inside two very thin pieces of cardboard. I never really liked buying cards this way. I guess I thought it was more fun to get the packs and rip them open!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
  • I have a used one purchased off of eBay about a year ago, paid $5 for the machine and $30 shipping, and it came with a case of about 1000 new cardboard inserts Doug mentioned.

Sorry to hear that, my consignor seems to think he has a Gold Mine. Oh Well for a nickel a month we'll see what happens.

    Thanks

From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

  • Mine was not like new as the one you have listed, but was complete, works as it should. I would think it should still be worth a couple hundred to the right person.

Ya never know with a card item, but I've seen old postage stamp vending machines similar to this in flea market stores for around a $75 asking price, and they never sell.

I've seen one before, my uncle picked one up at an auction 25 years ago. He only paid $20-25 for it at a small hick town auction. I have no idea what the current value is at a real auction.

You may want to revise your title and description as these were not made to sell traditional 5 cent wax packs of cards and gum.
  • Looks a lot like exhibit machines around the 1960's, here is a photo of my three, the one on the left is a 1960's version, the other two are the right is a 1920's and the middle is a 1930's, and on price I paid between $400-500 each for these-

  • I would guess somewhere between 400 to 600. jmho
