i think a '78 McCovey PSA 10 1/1 went for over $1,300, so $800 for Rob Belloir seems logical if you consider that he hit around 500 less homers than Willie.
For those that care...I had to look him up since I have never heard of him.

He sucked then. So the buyer is definitely not buying it for the player. That is one expensive PSA label.
There was a great post on another board from a guy discussing a collecting epiphany that he had. He was trying to put together all the refractors from a particular year and issue (2009 Finest, or something like that) of one of his favorite players, and after a few months he had them all- the /500, the /250, /100, /25, /5, etc. He laid them all out on the table, and as he looked at them he thought to himself "Wow, this is really f*****g stupid".
The same thing is going to happen to these registry zombies in about five years or so. They'll look at cards like this, then remember the '75 Mini dust-up, and think to themselves "Wait- I spent how much money on this card? And worse yet, I bought it from that seller? Man- that was really, really f******g stupid".

If you look at it that way, collecting any pictures of other men and spending big money for them is pretty stupid. But is a hobby that I and alot of other people enjoy.

I doubt this ends at $800 as there were a handfull of serious collectors of these trying to have the best set.
Graded, the price jumps by 8,000% (if my math is right). Insane!
<< <i>The Set Registry is a hellova drug!
and an expensive drug at that!
