also, it would be interesting to know how this person chose you to rob. did he find you via ebay...does he know someone you know...or was it just random?

i am sorry this happened to you...but glad that you did recover some of your loss. i don't think you ever completely recover from something like this, but you do move on. i am glad you are moving on and some positive things are happening for you now.

  • << <i>BTW, Did the 2 of you finally complete the transaction on eBay for the 1872-CC Eagle?

Just curious, and very glad things worked out for you.

    Paul. >>

    Hi Paul,
Yes, Daniel and I completed the sale of the 1872-cc Eagle back around July.

<< <i>It's still hard for me to believe that it's been 5 months when my world changed. I wish to give THANKS to all here this Thanksgiving. I've been ill in the hospital recently, so I'm sorry for being a little late. Everybody here, in their own way, has helped me and my wife indirectly/directly recover my stolen coins. Now for some news:
    UPDATE:
On 11/9/11, we were contacted by BofA. There were a series of checks(11) that totaled about $3,000. written out to a local man with my wifes name that the Bank said didn't match her signature. My wife had never written any of these checks. The checks had been stolen during the burglary in June. The bank said they have clear video images of the man that cashed some of the checks at their bank. The bank only cashed 1 of the checks, they stopped all the others. We (Me, my wife and BofA) contacted Deputy Pacheco (the deputy that is now assigned to our case). They discovered this name GERALD MACK, ID and videos of this crook, along with his current residence. That is where we are today. >>

    PM sent.

The police are certain that the people that robbed our house had been inside the house previously, and knew where the valuables were kept. They believe this because a diamond ring was left on a table in the living room, but, was not taken. The robbers knew exactly where to go and where not to go. We are almost certain it was my son's ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend that did this. She had stayed with us for 6 months while my son was in Afghanastan.

Real nice huh? Do someone a favor by letting them live with you and how do they repay you...by casing your house! What a real class act.

I hope they get what they deserve.

    Paul.

    Later, Paul.

With your name and city and state and with the help of the internet, I am not sure a P.O. Box would really conceal your residence or place of business.

Did you get a good deal on it? Maybe he is running out of excuses to cancel a transaction.

  • a very interesting thread. i will humbly offer some advice to others out there that can become victims.

    1) if you have a collection that you keep at home, have a home security system and have a safe, preferably heavy and well hidden.
    2) add the value of your collection to your homeowners insurance (like jewelry). I send my agent an updated excel spreadsheet list of my coins with cert numbers and cost basis.

if someone gets in your house while its empty, they need to find the safe and be prepared to move it somehow.
if you get robbed while you are home, give up the coins, protect yourself and family and let the insurance company settle with you.

  • Very depressing. I recently learned the robbery of my coins was an inside job. The ex-girlfriend of my step son and my now ex-wife had set-up the robbery. Unfortunately, the police aren't interested in this case anymore. What had happened was, my than wife contacted my sons than girlfriend when we left the house to go to lunch. My wife had given a garage door remote to her and she robbed the house while we were at lunch. I guess sometimes crime does pay. The Casa Grande police are complete idiots. They should be ashamed of themselves.
  • Were you going to use this for an over strike piece?

That is messed up. At least you got coins back. Maybe get a restraining order on both of them.

It's bad enough for one to have their security and peace-of-mind violated by a stranger, but for it to be done by those held closest has to be a double gut punch.

Very sorry and best of luck going foward . . .

That is such a horrible story on so many levels.......
I wish you the best !
On the bright side, if there is one, this is NOT slow stomach cancer.
You will recover and life will look up !

Agreed, life can be like a roller coaster, sometimes you are up sometimes you are down. You have figured out how to be up before and you will be again.
